"Hello, I'm Poe Dameron and I was wondering if you have any open positions here at the moment-"

"We don't need no one right now. Try being a construction worker," the manager said after he taking a glance up at Poe. He tipped his glasses down and scanned him, "Might suit you better."

Although he could've retaliated, Poe didn't and decided to just let it go. It wouldn't do him any good and there were plenty of other douches out there that would tell him the same thing. He just nodded and left to sit in his car for a moment a take a deep breath. He let out a sigh and with that, out on a smile and made his way to the hardware store for the second time this week.

Five more stores and the same answer. "We're not hiring." "We need someone with more experience." "Take a hike."

He really wanted to punch a wall but instead ran his hands through his hair and got in his car. He needed to find something. Fast.

"Over here!" Lily said as Finn walked into the café. She was sitting in a chair by the window for her lunch break and Finn had brought her favorite food.

He gave her a quick kiss on her forehead and sat in front of her. "Okay mademoiselle, alfredo pasta for the you and a meatball sub for the moi."

Lily put her hand on his, "You're so amazing, thank you. I've been starving and I'm tired of turkey sandwiches for lunch."

She opened her box and sighed happily as she took a whiff of the food. "Oh! I forgot to ask, how's Poe doing with finding a job? I've already bugged my manager enough about a position that they just might let me go."

Finn shook his head. "No luck, I'm really hoping he gets back on his feet though he deserves it more than he realizes."

"Of course he does, he's such a sweet guy. You told him about being roommates if he needed, though, right?" Lily said through a scoop of pasta while covering her mouth.

"Yeah," Finn frowned as he stared down at his sub. He didn't want his friend to think he thought any less of him though, he just wanted him to know he had his back no matter what.

They had only known each other for over a month but it felt like years. Poe just brought out a certain side of him that no one else did and he loved seeing himself like that. It was mind blowing to think how much of an impact they have had in each other's lives.

Finn would think back to that first moment he saw him and thought about it a lot. Would they be friends if he never went outside that night? Would they even know the other existed?

He felt overwhelmed just thinking about it. I guess he had never realized how much people can affect each other. It was how Poe had said around the time they first met. It was like fate.

"You okay, Finn?" Lily said looking across her seat with a concerned look. "You seemed of out of it."

"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry I was just thinking," he apologized as he finally took a bite of his meal before it got too cold to taste good. The taste of the sub reminded him how hungry he had been too. His stomach growled at him demanding he take another bite.

Lily took a drink of her water and folded her arms on the table leaning forward eagerly. "So this weekend I'm going out of town with Elsie and Ginger, you remember them from the party right? Anyway, we're going to Los Angeles for the weekend at Elsie's sister's place since..." she trailed off rambling about a story that Finn wasn't sure he entirely understood but nodded his head laughing to himself.

He enjoyed being around Lily and they started going out after her party a few weeks back and they hit it off. He didn't expect much to come out of it, after all, she was the first person he'd ever really been out with. They enjoyed their time together and it warmed his heart that she ended up getting along with Poe too. He really didn't want his best friend to get left out.

"... and so when she left she told Elsie she could use it!" Lily said taking a breath and holding a smile.

Finn couldn't help but smile along with her, "That's great El."

After thirty minutes or so, Lily's lunch break finished and Finn decided to go back to the apartment to work on a new canvas he started. It was beginning to become his favorite piece: an outside look at a dark blueish shaded apartment with light shining through the window and two broad figures close together and holding another. He had started it without even thinking, smudges of paint on a canvas with the brief outline of the people and the apartment and window with a dark shadowy sky on top.

The way the light shined out of the room and contrasted with the dark was so gorgeous to him that he immediately got excited and put all time into painting in whenever he could.

He never gave any second thought to the figures other than that he knew that the moment captured was the two of them finally embracing after a long time. The word that came to mind when he looked at the painting was home. Home: something he felt that he hadn't found yet but that painting gave him hope every time.

He'd find it someday.
