I couldn't contain my eagerness and tension. After spending over a thousand years side by side with Nik, we were finally on the cusp of breaking the curse. My eyes were fixed on the laptop in front of me, displaying the live video feed of Jules, the chained werewolf.

Nik entered the room, breaking my focus. "Where is Maddox? He should be back by now," he inquired, his voice laced with concern.

"I don't know," I replied, standing up from my chair and furrowing my eyebrows. "And where is Elena?" I asked, realizing her absence.

"I sent her off with Greta," Nik explained, and then he leaned in to kiss me. Despite the interruption, I couldn't help but embrace him, relishing our connection.

However, our moment was short-lived as the door swung open, revealing the dark-haired Salvatore brother, Damon, entering uninvited. Nik's irritation was evident in his voice as he addressed Damon's presence.

"I was not aware that you'd be invited in," Nik remarked curtly, turning away from him.

Damon wasted no time in delivering his message. "I came to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual," he announced, leaning against the door frame nonchalantly.

I couldn't help but snort, finding their attempts to interfere amusing. They were mere amateurs compared to us. Yet, a twinge of jealousy flickered within me as I thought of Elena. She had an entire group of people ready to protect her, willing to lay down their lives. I had only Niklaus. While his siblings had been kind to me when they were around, I knew they would never truly sacrifice themselves for me. Niklaus was the only one who genuinely cared.

"Didn't we already have this conversation?" Niklaus challenged, stepping closer to Damon.

"Yes, but that was before I rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch," Damon replied, maintaining his composure.

"Excuse me?" Niklaus's voice grew colder as he faced Damon.

"And you can kill me for it. It was all me," Damon stated, locking eyes with Niklaus.

"You know, I've heard about you," I interjected, smirking as Damon's attention shifted towards me. "Crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl."

Niklaus turned the laptop towards Damon, showing him the video feed. "Of course, I knew that one of you would try to stop me. It was just a 50/50 guess on who," Niklaus declared.

"The good thing about werewolves is that they tend to travel in packs. Need a closer look?" Niklaus taunted, displaying the video of Jules.

"Jules..." Damon mumbled, his tone betraying a mix of surprise and realization.

"When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse, you learn a thing or two. First rule: always have a backup. Backup werewolf. Backup witch," Niklaus smirked confidently.

"Backup vampire..." Damon's gaze shifted to me.

"I've got that covered," I grinned mischievously before swiftly snapping Damon's neck.

Niklaus questioned my actions. "Was that necessary, Thea?"

"No, but it was entertaining," I laughed, reveling in the exhilaration. "I have a great idea," I announced, settling down on the large couch.

"What do you have in mind?" Niklaus joined me, his curiosity piqued.

"You'll see," I smirked, grabbing my phone. "Katerina!" I called out.

She walked into the room, staring at me with a mix of apprehension and familiarity. "Althea," she uttered.

"I need you to call someone. Pretend to be Elena, lure her out..." I said, my smile growing malicious.
