I now stand along on the roof, staring up at the sky, when an overpowering yet familiar sense draws me to the man in the moon.
"Don't look at me like that, old friend. You must have known this day would come. My Nightmares are finally ready - are your Guardians?"
Now...
The moon's glare was bright as I turn to head into the broken down house. As soon as I saw her on the bed, I smiled, taking a few steps closer.
"I will say, this home is quiet quaint." She jumped up and stared at me, tears running down her face. She faced me, backing away towards the door. I only smirked when she opened it and saw the Nightmare on the other side.
She jumped back before looking at me again, shaking of fear. What do you want from me, Pitch?" She asked, standing in the corner of the room.
I scowled, walking closer to her. "Maybe, I want what you have. To be believed in! Maybe I'm tired of hiding under beds," I said, pointing to her then to the bed. Her eyes trailed my finger to face the bed before she looked back at me.
I smile slightly before it fades. "I have to say, you are quite a rose. You are very special. Aren't you, my rose?"
She clenched her fists, scowling in the process. "I am not your 'rose'," she said, creating quotations in the air. I only chuckled.
"I remember those Dark Ages. Where I was feared. Did Jack ever tell you this? I told it to him at the tooth palace." She looked at me, confusion and fear sparking repeatedly in her eyes. "Oh, the Dark Ages!" I started.
"Everyone frightened, miserable, such happy times for me - oh the power I wielded! But then the Man in the Moon chose you to replace my fear with your wonder and light. Lifting their hearts and giving them hope. Meanwhile everyone wrote me off as just a bad dream. Oh there's nothing to be afraid of! There's no such thing as The Boogeyman! Well that's all about to change."
She shook her head, tightening her fists more. "No, no. Children believe in the Gaurdians. I don't bring light. Sandy does." She paused, bowing her head. "But you brought him down." She took a step forward, surprising me. But I kept my position, showing no signs of surprise.
"You are just a bad dream. And that's all you'll be. And under the bed is where you'll be. No one will believe in you," she said. Her words marked me, I scowled before clenching my own fists.
"I will be belived in! And your just the seed of it." I said, staring at her while my Nightmares crept closer to her. I walked backwards towards the window, ready to climb out and find the Gaurdians.
I heard bells and chittering, and I knew it was time to go. But she ran at me. I dived quikley, barely missing her fists. The wall supporting the window broke, and she fell out. I heard her screams and smiled as it greatly powered me.
I looked out the broken wall to see the great three that we're left.
"I have to say... this is very, very exciting. The Big Four, all in one place. I'm a little starstruck. Did you like my show on the globe, North? Gotcha all together, didn't I?" I say as I stare down at them while (Y/N) hangs onto a thick vine.
North growled in anger as Tooth flew forward. "Pitch! What did you do? Tell me or I'll-" I cut her off, smirking to myself.
"Or what? You'll put a quarter under my pillow?"
They all looked at me, confusion and something else I didn't recognize sparking in their eyes.
"Maybe I wanted to be more. To be so much more than the scary Boogeyman everyone hates. But I will perfect it."
I walk behind some shadows an appear behind them, but about the same distance away. Tooth grabbed one of Bunnymund's boomerangs, and threw it at me, but before it could hit me, the Nightmare appeared.
"Whoa ho ho ho, hey!" I said, petting the Nightmare. It shone both black and gold, like Sandman.
"Easy girl, easy. Hehe. Look familiar, (Y/N)? Took me awhile to perfect this little trick: turning dreams into nightmares. Don't be nervous; it only riles them up more. They smell fear, you know."
By this point, Tooth had already gotten (Y/N) from off the roof, but now she seemed scared again. Oh, how I loved this feeling.
"Everything's changing. It's happened already. "
(Y/N) looked to me, then to the Gaurdians. "What is he talking about?" she asked, holding herself up against Bunny.
"Didn't they tell you, (Y/N)? It's great being a Guardian! But there's a catch. If enough kids stop believing, everything your friends protect - wonder, hopes, and dreams - it all goes away. And little by little, so do they. Hehehehe. No Christmas, or Easter, or little fairies that come in the night. There will be nothing but fear, and darkness... and me. It's your turn not to be believed in!"
Bunny threw one of his boomerangs, and I doged, walking behind the trees, smirking at my plan. They left (Y/N) behind as they attacked. While they searched the tree rim, she kept backing up towards the shadows.
I took it as my chance to grab her, and before we were gone, her scream rang out, and a last boomerang was flung in my direction.
