"You miss your Dad?" I asked Sushi. It's been a few months na nandito siya. I was starting to think that Sean lied to me. Kung kay Stephen nga talaga si Sushi, paano siya papayag na ganito katagal sa amin si Sushi?

Sean's in the hospital dahil may aksidente yatang nangyari and kailangan ng backup. We were supposed to go to Tagaytay for a weekend getaway. We're really trying. We both wanted this marriage to work... God, we really love each other. I hoped that's strong enough for us to get through this.

I got my wine and I got Sushi a bowl of his treats. Tahimik lang akong nanonood ng documentary habang katabi ko si Sushi. He's such a nice dog. I wasn't a dog person—or a pet person for that matter. I just didn't like taking care of another living thing. I wouldn't even trust myself with a plant.

While we're in the middle of watching, my phone vibrated. Since we got Sushi, I ignored my phone during the weekends to truly focus on my marriage... Pero kapag weekdays ay doon ako nagta-trabaho talaga... I just made sure that by 6, pauwi na ako para sabay kaming kakain ni Sean.

But since he's not here, I opted to answer my phone.

"Come to the office," Sancho said.

"Why?"

"Big case. You'll want an in on this," sabi niya.

"Okay. Thanks for the info," I told him before I ended the call. I tossed my phone to the side kaya naman napa-tingin ako kay Sushi na naka-tingin sa akin. "What? It's not as if pwede kitang iwan dito... Magagalit sa 'kin Tito mo," I said.

I tried to focus on the documentary, but my mind kept on flying to the office. Ito yata iyong balita na kaso tungkol sa Ylana na kaso... pero alam ko naman na kay Atty. Yuchengco ibibigay 'yun. Pero gusto kong pumunta sa office para lang alam ko iyong mangyayari.

I looked at Sushi, and then sighed.

I couldn't go and leave him.

When Sean finally returned, he looked so tired kaya naman pinabayaan ko na siya. He just took a quick bath and then told me that he needed to sleep first. I just busied myself with preparing our dinner... Hindi pa rin nagrereply si Sancho tungkol sa kaso. Gusto ko pa rin naman kasing malaman since big case talaga 'yun.

A little after 8pm, I woke Sean up.

"What did you two do today?" he asked while helping himself with the pasta I made.

"Nothing much. Just watched docu," I replied, pouring myself a glass of wine.

Sean tried to engage me in a conversation and I answered them all. We watched a movie. I snuggled close to him. Hindi ko alam kung nanonood ba talaga kami o gusto lang naming magka-dikit na ganito. It felt melancholic—almost sad.

"You're bored," he said.

"I think the movie's good," I replied.

"No, you're bored taking care of Sushi," he said.

"I'm not," sagot ko sa kanya. "The reason why I was bothered earlier was because there's a big case in the firm. I was asked to go there, but I couldn't leave Sushi."

I didn't move. I wanted to stay in this position. I wanted to stay close to him. I really didn't want him to leave.

"You should've left him," sabi niya. "The worse he could've done is to destroy our couch."

I laughed a little. "Yeah... He's a little bastard."

I felt him kissing the side of my head. "I don't know if you changed your mind yet, but I'm really happy that you're trying."
