Dumbledore was striding along the seventh floor when a door suddenly appeared in the wall -- green with the Slytherin insignia on the top left, red with the Gryffindor symbol on the top right, yellow with the Hufflepuff badger on the bottom left, blue with the Ravenclaw eagle on the bottom right, and the Hogwarts symbol right in the center of the door. The headmaster's eyes widened, and he pushed open the double doors.
Inside was a small chamber, with five floating cloaks (silver, red, gold, black, and blue) and a pedastel, atop which was a large, lether-bound book and a golden crown.
When Dumbledore reached the pedastel, the book opened to the very last page. At the top of the page was written:
King/Queen of Hogwarts
Lord/Lady Snake, Guardian of Ambition and Cunning
Lord/Lady Lion, Guardian of Bravery and Goodness
Lord/Lady Eagle, Guardian of Wisdom and Intelligence
Lord/Lady Badger, Guardian of Loyalty and Work
Beneath each of the names was a short list of people, starting with the founders of Hogwarts. Dumbledore's name was the last written under King/Queen of Hogwarts, and there were four familiar names at the bottom of the other four lists:
High Lord Edward Riddle, Slytherin
Lady Ruby Black, Gryffindor
Lady Luna Lovegood, Ravenclaw
Lord Cedric Diggory, Hufflepuff
Dumbledore smiled.
The four Guardians of Hogwarts had returned.
