"Hi, my name is Maya Hart. I was one of the many students who went on the history trip last week. Now I've been asked to come up here to share my experience, my story and how i feel. I will do that, but it would be wrong of me to acknowledge my feelings before acknowledging yours. To the parents, siblings, family or friends who are sitting here today mourning the loss of your loved one, I would like to share my deepest condolences. Nothing could describe the pain of loosing someone you love and in such a traffic way doesn't make it any easier. That is why we are here, to share, look back and remember those beautiful people"
"I can't say I was as close with these students as I'm sure a lot of you are, sure I might've passed them in the corridors or sat next to them in 4th period maths but I can say that it has awoken me, made me more aware and caring for other people..it may be too late for them, but for us here I hope we can be more open to spreading love and spirit through the school because Life is short, and you never know when something can go wrong..I was fortunate enough to get outside the lodge in time, thanks to people who I hold closely in my heart"
"My best friend, Riley Matthews discovered her boyfriend and father, Mr Matthews hadn't yet got out of the building. She was brave, she was bold and she ran back inside the burning building to find them. I cried, we all did. I remember thinking, how could someone do that? How could they be inside there? And it wasn't until I had gone back inside myself that I realised your love for people powers over fear. Mr Matthews had come outside while Riley was still inside the building, I took a dangerous move and ran after her. It may not have been the smartest move, but she is here today and I'm thankful that we found each other in the building, jumping off the second floor window to the ground where we were caught"
"By almost loosing my best friend has given me the opportunity to speak today, to share with you my story, and to sympathise with you. In no way do I share how many of you are feeling, but from almost being in your position, i can only guess it's the worst feeling. A quote 'we all die, the goal isn't to life forever, it's to create something that will', and I can say that each and every one of those students has created something that will live forever. Hannah Morrison, excelled in Art, she won multiple competitions and you can often see her murals and artworks hung up around the school. Andrew Thompson brought life to theatre like no other, he performed with his heart and soul. Andrew starred in 3 school plays, before the trip he auditioned for Greece the musical, scoring the place of Danny. Lisa Lohan was the head cheerleader, she brought spirit to the school games, she would bring happiness to everyone she could. I think we can all say that if it was raining she would yell at the sun, just to make sure the football players got to play their game"
"They are only a few of the powerful students of JQA. they aren't here with us today physically, but spiritually they're looking down on us, guiding each and every person to success and a great future. I'd like to finish by saying that when someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes treasure. That treasure is priceless, and I and every student here are so incredibly lucky to have been a part of their journey on this planet. So farewell, we will love, miss and cherish you everyday. We will look for you in the stars. So instead of a goodbye, think of this as a Until we meet again. Sincerely, Maya Hart" i finish the long ass speech, taking a step back from the microphone, wiping a few tears that had escaped my eyes
"Maya Hart everyone" the principal clapped as the rest of the school did, a few students standing up. I looked back over to Lucas who had a proud smile on his face. He gave me a little thumbs up before I turned back to where I sat.
