Of course, Edward was put to navigate his family toward the pediatric wing of St. Bernards. He had been in the hospital plenty of times to see Carlisle so he knew his way around quite well.

It had been roughly twenty-three hours according to Alice since they had seen Carlisle. Edward knew something was up. Alice was getting strings of visions of this child with bright blue eyes and soft blonde curls, almost like snapshots of the child's life.

Not seeing Carlisle was mostly because of the flood lockdown the city had been under, the freak thunderstorm had taken everyone by surprise. Earlier, Carlisle called and requested the presence of the whole family at the hospital as soon as possible. That request alerted Edward even more. Esme was on edge which translated to Jasper who projected onto Alice who worried Edward. The family wasn't doing so well apart from Rosalie and Emmett who always remained fairly calm in their bubble.

They were settled now in a small waiting room with pictures of infants and children around them. They had chosen to sit in a corner away from all the humans whose thoughts drifted towards Edward. He had to admit the thoughts of all the pregnant women fascinated him. Jasper was sitting extremely close to Alice who was conversing with him lowly, she was trying to comfort him from the scent of blood.

If Jasper had it his way, he wouldn't have come but he respected Carlisle far too much to let the bloodlust control him.

Esme was next to Edward peering through a magazine while Emmett and Rosalie chatted freely. The presence of children or pregnant women forever made Rosalie comfortable.

The thought of spicy chicken soup, which belonged to a blonde-haired lady a few feet away from Edward, was interrupted by jumbled-up thoughts. He recognized the owner of these thoughts before he even saw him. Carlisle was walking towards them with a bit of a pinched look that Esme grimaced at, she reached out for Carlisle as soon as she could. "Carlisle, what's going on?" He signaled for them to follow him out of the waiting room which they did.

As they left Rose flashed a "congratulations," to every pregnant lady they passed by. Emmett and Edward gave encouraging smiles, and Edward hoped the blonde woman got her spicy chicken soup, she deserved it after all the foot sores she was moaning to herself about.

Carlisle brought them to an empty hallway, "I need you all to be very patient with me and what I'm about to say." The gravity in his voice was noted. "I was preparing to leave here when a nurse came to me, she implied that there was a situation she needed help with. She took me to a room where a woman named Tessa was, she was pregnant." Edward frowned at the fact that Carlisle was speaking of this woman in the past tense, "was?" "She was expecting an immortal child. I delivered this child and now the child has been given to us."

The sheer blankness on everyone's face was almost comical.

"I've never heard of anything like this ..." Alice shook her head, "it's very rare but it happens."

Emmett tilted his head, "what do you mean given to us?"

"Tessa understood her baby wouldn't be safe unless it was with its kind .. she asked me to take her child and raise it." "How did she know about us?" "The nurse I'm guessing ..  might be a native." Rosalie piped up, "I want to see the baby." Carlisle didn't hesitate to start walking toward the nursery where all the newborns slept.

Edward knew who the child was just by her thoughts. He had never been able to focus on the thoughts of infants seeing as they were usually too frantic. They were constantly attempting to make sense of what was happening, the back and forth irked Edward. This child was different. He could hear her thinking strong and steady thoughts that were surprisingly around Carlisle.
