The next day I felt someone tap me and I saw Aunt Verna in view with a smile on her face. "Come on babe, go and take a ho bath." She said and I giggled slightly. She gave me a plastic toothbrush and some spare new underwear from her bag and directed me to the private bathroom. It seems Aunt Verna was prepared for every occasion.

I yawned and stretched as I looked at myself in the mirror. I nearly screamed at my appearance. The one night I didn't sleep with my silk scarf I was seeing the effect on my afro. I got undressed and quickly bathed as much as I could with the shower wash and flannel they provided and changed my underwear. I put my jeans back on and my blouse, I'm sure the boys would bring me some new clothes. I twisted my hair into a goddess braid all the way round and washed my face. I was beyond tired as it was another early morning start but I knew the doctors would be in in no time to check Mason's progress.

15 minutes later I was done moisturising and made my way back into his room.

"Do you want some breakfast darling?" Aunt Verna asked. "I just went to the bakery downstairs and got some fresh croissants. She handed me two.

"Thank you." I said and bit into one. I took a seat back down next to Mason and his body still lay there lifeless, the only thing making us aware his alive was the beeps of his heart.

Aunt Verna squeezed my shoulder, "don't worry he'll wake up." She combed her sons hair and kissed his forehead.

The nurse soon came in to do some obs and I finished off my croissants and called Jacqui to let her know what was happening.

An hour later, I was sipping hot chocolate and playing scrabble with mom when Malcolm bussed through the door with a worried look.

"He still hasn't woken up?" He asked as he went straight to his brother.

"No but he's stable." I said.

Isaiah came looking rather casual than usual with a Starbucks cup in his hand. "Mason, stop being such a drama queen and wake up." He shook his leg and we all laughed. You could always count on Isa to lighten the mood.

"So you said he was complaining of chest pains beforehand?" The doctor looked to Malcolm and he nodded sheepishly not looking at mom.

"Yh the last few days actually but he said it was worse at half time." Malcolm said and I let him take my seat next to Mase. The doctor wrote some things down but just nodded and walked out.

"Who wants to play the game go fish?" Isa said and I rolled my eyes.

"This isn't the 1980s Isa, no one plays those games anymore." I complained and Malcolm laughed.

"Seeing as we were all born in the 90s I don't know what you're trying to imply but go fish is a classic." he said taking out his pack of cards.

He shuffled them slightly and shifted Masons legs to the side and sat on his bed.

"Isa!" Mum shouted and he smirked.

"What? It's not like he knows." He smiled even further. "We need somewhere to play the cards." He said and I laughed. I pulled up a chair next to Malcolm and took a seat whilst Isa shuffled.

"Right the objective of the game is to lose your cards right?" I confirmed and he nodded. I hadn't played this game in years with these guys and I knew they'd cheat.

"Ace of spades." Isaiah said.

"2 of hearts." Malcolm said and they both put down their cards. Of course Isa lied and had to take Malcolm's card.

"You lie!" Malcolm chackled and I giggled.

"Look I'm just tryna win the game bro!" He slapped down another card and so did I. I was a card shark no doubt and I might lose the first time but a soon as I got the hang of it I would be on it again.
