2022, Apr 25 - Seokjin (Jimin Focused Loop)

It's been three days with no word from Jimin's eommeoni. It's disappointing but expected. Time to move on to the next step.

I've let some time pass, so it shouldn't be weird if I reveal that I know about Jimin. Starting now, I'm going to be the friend who tracked down Jimin's whereabouts and learned that he's been admitted to an inpatient psychiatric ward, who's come to visit him.

The moment I'm about to leave for Jimin's house, Junho samcheon, my abeoji's secretary, walks in. "Where are you headed, Seokjin-ah?"

(A/N: Loop #1: I'm going to school for a bit.)

"There's something I need to do at school, so I was going there."

"At school?"

"Yes, I have some assignments to do."

"Oh? Shall I give you a ride?"

"No, I don't want to invite attention. I'll go by myself."

"It's been so busy shadowing your abeoji, hasn't it? There's a lot to pay attention to."

"No, it's been okay."

"It's not easy being family of a public official. But I hope you'll power through, if not for your abeoji, then."

"Yes." I'm about to leave after my affirmative reply, when...

"Oh, right. I saw you having a long conversation with Shin Seonmi the other day..." What he says reminds me of the meeting I attended.

"It would've been nice if Jimin's abeoji was here... He'll joining me another time, so you can say hello to him then."

"Yes. I'll make sure to bring my abeoji along then."

"Shall we do that, then?"

Was Junho samcheon watching us the entire time?

"Don't get too friendly with her if you can help it. She doesn't have the greatest reputation."

"Yes, she's my friend's eommeoni. We just chatted for a moment. Don't worry." I quickly say goodbye to Junho samcheon and leave the house, feeling bad about lying.

"What kind of business?"

"I'm going to see a friend to work on a school assignment."

"Yeah? I'll give you a ride, then. Let's go."

Junho samcheon leads the way, and I can't think of a reason to reject his offer.

I head towards Jimin's house in hopes of persuading his eommeoni. Jimin's eommeoni is very ambitious. She frequents social gatherings and church to manage social connections, working hard to elevate her husband's status though he's already a board member. Someone who will turn a blind eye to her own son for status. That's the public assessment of Jimin's eommeoni.

The reason why she talked to me is because she wanted to be connected to abeoji. That's great. If she approached me with that in mind, she won't be able to completely disregard what I have to say. This thought is on my mind as I step into the apartment building - and run into Jimin's eommeoni on her way out.

"Hello. Nice to see you again."

"Seokjin-ssi? What are you doing here..."

"I've haven't heard from you, so I decided to come see you myself."

"Heard from me...?" She looks very wary at the mention of coming to see her directly.

What can I say to persuade Jimin's eommeoni?

"I'd like to see Jimin. You said you'd ask Jimin and get back to me. His other friends would really like to see him, too."

"Ah..." Her eyes dart around.

I can't help but have high expectations. Won't she relent once she knows there are friends who want to see her son? Won't she whittle her pride just a little, for her son? But...

"I completely forgot. I haven't been able to reach him because of the time difference, so..." It doesn't happen.

"Pardon? Time difference?"

"Jimin's in the U.S right now."

"The United States??" It's my turn to be taken aback by the ever-growing lies. "You never mentioned that last time we spoke."

"I didn't? I was pretty frazzled that day."

I decide to reveal what I know, unable to listen to her lies any longer. "From what I've heard, Jimin's locked up in a hospital."

Jimin's eommeoni hardens at my words. "... Says who?"

"That's the rumor. He's at Gyeongil Hospital, isn't he?"

She stares at me for a while before smiling. "Yes, Seokjin-ssi. I couldn't tell you because I thought you'd be alarmed... and to protect Jimin. I apologize for lying. It's true that he's in the hospital, but 'locked up'? I'm sure you know that's not true. Jimin's been sick for a while. He's just getting treatment for it." Jimin's eommeoni finally acknowledges that he's in the hospital.

Maybe... Maybe I can persuade her. "Please let Jimin discharged. He's in the hospital against his wishes."

(A/N: Loop #2: I came to see you because I know everything.)

"To be honest... I know everything." Jimin's eommeoni visibly wavers at my words. "I know what hospital he's in, too."

"What are you talking about-"

"Why is Jimin in the hospital?" I throw out the biggest question first. "Does he have to be there?"

"Seokjin-ssi, I appreciate (A/N: other loop written as, "I'm thankful") that you're worried about Jimin. But I'm his eommeoni, and that means I know what's best for him." She gives a firm response to my suggestion.

I can't back down. Not like this. "Can I go see him, then? I'm sure he can have visitors."

"Well, I hope you'll cooperate so that Jimin can focus on treatment. You should go now." Jimin's eommeoni tries to leave, claiming she has nothing left to talk about. It doesn't seem possible to persuade his eommeoni.

"I'll look into it on my own. I'm going to see Jimin, no matter how hard you try to stop me." This is my warning to her.

She glares sharply at me. "Seokjin-ssi, if I can give you a word of advice, adults have reasons for everything they do. You should forget about this." Her voice is low and cold.
