Angst

Every day, (Name) visited the school library for one reason. The cute boy that was always sitting on that one spot with the same book.

She visited the library just for studying at first but when she met his gaze that one time, she always came at the same time to the library just to read some books and sit right next to that boy.

He didn't mind. Actually, he enjoyed her presence. It was a while since someone sat next to him. Or notice him at all.

Eyeing him secretly she buried her nose into the book trying to push back the blush on her face. He saw her and smiled but did like he didn't see. Slowly she backed up from the book and started reading again.

"What's your name...?" she quietly asked. He heard her as his smile widened and he peeked at her little form.

"Semi Eita"

He replied which made her startled a little. She didn't expect him to hear her.

"Nice name... I'm (Full name)" she lowly said without looking up from her book. She tried to push back her smile but failed as she felt the happiness filling her up. 'I talked to him' she thought.

And they sat in silence again but now, with comfortable aura around them. But what was bugging (Name) was that she never saw him in the hallways or in some classes. She never saw him out of the library.

The next day she came again and sat at the same seat that was next to Semis. "Hi," she gently greeted and pulled out the book that she borrowed.

"Hi," he greeted back without looking up from his book that he has been reading for a while now.

They sat in silence for hours just enjoying each other's presence and reading books. "What are you reading?" (Name) asked looking up from her book and looking at him. He looked down at her and send her a warm smile.

"It's called 'Beginning of the end'" he replied and looked at her book.

"3 voices of the paradise..." he mumbled and looked closely. She stiffened but quickly turned back to reality. "Yeah, it's a good book," she smiled at him and he nodded.

"I know, I read it already,"

"Oh, you did?" she asked him tilting her head. He just hummed in agreement and got back to his book. That was the longest conversation they held. Even though he was a mysterious person, she couldn't help but be interested in him.

Is he from this school? What are his hobbies? Is he a third year? And many others.

"It was nice meeting you (Name)..." he suddenly said. She saw the frown on his face. What was wrong? "It was nice meeting you too Semi" she replied but got startled when he quickly turned his head towards her.

"You can call me Eita," he said with a gentle smile now. Her shock expression looked funny that he couldn't help but chuckle a little. At the sound of that angelic noise, (Name)'s heart started beating faster.

"Then you can call me (First Name) too," she replied finally. "Thanks for keeping me a company," he spoke up his expression soft. Something was off but she didn't care.

"And thank you for letting me keep you a company," she mumbled with red cheeks. She didn't know why was he suddenly saying all of this.

The next day she came back but she didn't see him there.

"He's not here...? Maybe he's sick..." she mumbled under breath and sat back down reading all alone. She missed his presence but what could she do. She couldn't focus. Her mind wandered towards the mysterious boy that caught her interest.

It would be fine if he would come back but he never did. She waited for weeks, sitting at that place waiting for him to return. People noticed that she was sad all the time sitting in the same place. She wasn't feeling well and wanted to check up on him but she didn't have any way to contact him.

So one day the library lady came to check if she's alright.

"Hello there (Name)," she greeted the girl and sat next to her. "Good afternoon miss Watabane," (Name) greeted with a tired voice.

"Is something wrong?" the lady asked her softly worrying about the girl. "Do you know the boy that always sits next to me?" (Name) spoke up confusing the library lady but she didn't say anything and kept on listening to (Name).

"He hasn't been showing up for weeks. I wait for him all the time but he's nowhere to be seen. His name is Semi Eita," (Name) pouted but her eyes caught the expression of the lady sitting next to her which confused her.

Her face held pity and guilt.

"Miss Watabane...?" (Name) looked at her with concern. "Listen (Name)... I don't know how to put it but I thought that you know this..." she exhaled and put her hands together.

"Semi Eita isn't alive for 3 years now and the only thing that was left was his spirit that stays in this library," she gently said waiting for (Name)'s reaction.

(Name) was looking at her with shock but she let out a chuckle. "Don't joke around like that miss..." she looked but the pity and guilt on the lady only got bigger.

"You're not joking..." (Name) mumbled when she realized that this was far from joking.

"People often say that they saw him sitting with a book right here. He is yearning for a company or someone who can talk to him. He was a sweet boy that loved books but unfortunately, he didn't have many friends. He was in a volleyball team but he quit after one accident. From that moment he closed himself out of everyone's life and spent his time here. He died in a terrible accident. There's a limit for how long you can see him,"

(Name) swore that she felt her heart breaking. The boy that was next to her all the time wasn't a living person but just a spirit..? Tears didn't spill out pf her eyes as she was stuck in a shocking state not understanding anything.

She didn't want to understand but she did.

"I'm so sorry (Name)... but what everyone did see was you sitting alone laughing and talking to the air..." miss Watabane caressed her cheek as she was really sad to see the destroyed expression on the girl's face that was hoping that everything was a lie.

Nothing was a lie. She was truly talking to a spirit.
