Cara Dune
Mando
He couldn't stop looking at her. No matter how many times he tried to tear his gaze away, it kept going back to the woman beside him.
Mando's grip tightened on the controls of the Razor Crest as he forced his eyes forward. Bryn lay asleep beside him, not having woken up once. He wondered how she could sleep so deeply with all the rumbling of his ship but it didn't seem to bother her.
Her question lay thick in his thoughts. What was he doing? Not breaking out one, but two bounties. He was asking for a death wish, but as he glanced towards the woman's curled up body he didn't find himself regretting it in the slightest.
He scoffed at the sight of the child in her arms. It had crawled back on her after waddling through his ship for a while. The way the creature stared up at Bryn, it was obvious it was attached to her.
Bryn mumbled something under her breath and snuggled deeper into the chair. There was an odd feeling in his chest at her innocent actions. Mando grunted.
He didn't like it.
The child cooed beside him and climbed off of Bryn and onto the control panel. It watched with it's large eyes before it reached towards a switch and flicked it curiously. A noise sounded and Mando shut it off. The child wasn't fazed and reached for the switch again.
"Stop touching things." Came Mando's hard voice. He found himself unconsciously lowering his voice to keep from waking the woman beside him.
The child turned to him and looked up without saying a word. Mando glanced away and it's ears twitched as it slowly reached back towards the switch once again. It flicked it on and the ship instantly began to rattle.
Mando quickly steadied the ship and grabbed the child with a sigh.
"What happened?" A voice squeaked behind him. Through the commotion Bryn had jolted awake and stared at him with her curious wide eyes which rivaled those of the child.
Mando swallowed. "Nothing. We'll be landing soon."
She leaned closer towards the panel in front of him, looking down at his planet choices. Mando tensed as she got closer to him, unconsciously invading his personal space, but somehow he found that he didn't quite mind.
"We're are we going?" She asked with a yawn.
"Sorgan." He said. "It looks like there's no starport, no industrial centers, no population density. Real backwater skug hole, which means it's perfect for us." Mando glanced towards the child in his arms. "You ready to lay low and stretch your legs for a couple of months, you little womp rat?" He turned back to Bryn who had leaned back into her chair. "Nobody's going to find us here."
She cast her gaze down before glancing back at him. "He'll send Baize." Her voice was barely above a whisper. She didn't have to specify for him to know who she was talking about.
Mando was silent for a moment. "He was the guard." He replied bluntly, remembering how the man looked at her.
She gave a barely visible nod. "He won't stop." She lifted her eyes, questions swirling behind them. "Why would you do this?"
