"What did you say?" I ask my father while the fork slowly slides out of my hand. I clearly heard what he said, but my mind isn't ready to fully process it yet.
My father sighs and wipes his mouth with a napkin before repeating his words.
"I said we're going to host a ball this weekend. About 500 people are invited, so it's a perfect chance for you to try and find a wife. Or at least a girlfriend who can make you leave your room for once."
He continues eating his dinner while Mother gives me a quick sympathetic look. At the other side of the table is someone who doesn't feel for me at all though. Taehyung grins like it's his lucky day and I hate the fact that he was able to witness this whole ordeal. I give him a harsh glare as if to tell him to mind his own business , but that just makes him even more pleased.
This sucks. Why have they decided that I need to get married all of a sudden? It's not fair.
"I'm sorry, but why do I need a wife?" I ask. "It'll be years until I take over the crown anyway, so why does it matter?"
"We just don't want you to be lonely," Mother says. "Having a significant other could be a nice change for you."
"But I'm not lonely."
"Maybe not in that aspect," Taehyung chimes in with an evil look on his face.
My parents both look at him in question.
"Why do you say that?"
"Oh, I don't know if I should tell you or not," he says with a dramatic pause before glancing at me. His eyes make me nervous, even though I'm not sure exactly what it is he knows. Whatever it is it can't be good when he's clearly trying to use it against me.
"Please, tell us," Mother urges him.
"Well, I'm sure you're aware that Jungkook and I traded our servants a while ago, right?" My parents nod for him to continue and I start feeling a lump in my throat from where this is going. "Jungkook's former servant told me about a supposed list of all the workers Jungkook has been with so to say. And might I add, it was quite a long list. He hasn't been lonely at night for a long time. Rather, it seems to be more unusual for him to not share the bed with someone else."
I feel myself just staring at him with an open mouth and my parents are equally as shocked. He just exposed me. Actually, how the fuck does he even know about that? Did Jimin really tell him? Why would he do that?! And why is Taehyung telling my parents about it?! What's his motive? Recently Jin has been avoiding me anyway, so it's not like I've made any progress there.
My father looks at me and I have to swallow before I even dare to meet his eye. I'm in trouble now. Unless I lie. Of course! I can just lie and make Taehyung the villain instead.
"Is it true?" Father sternly asks. "Have you really been going behind our backs with the workers?"
"I would never do such a thing," I answer, and it does actually sound very convincing. I'm a pretty good liar after all. "It must be some baseless rumor. I'm not that kind of person."
Both Mother and Father sigh in relief and relax back in their chairs.
"Thank goodness. This is our first time hearing about this too. Of course you're not like that."
The danger seems to have been avoided, but I see a smile creeping up on Taehyung's face as he thinks.
"Are you sure it's baseless?" he says while nonchalantly playing with the mashed potatoes on his plate. "I mean, it was your own servant and friend who told me about it. I'm curious as to what the workers on the list would answer if we asked them. Did you do it or did you not? What do you think they would answer, Jungkook?"
