"So why have you not been online since last week?, Did your parents seize your phone?" Akin asks me as we walk home together after school
"No, I don't have money to buy credit abeg, I can not come and kill myself"
"I want to go and buy suya" Dorothy tells us "You people should wait for me here please"
"I'll come with you, I want to buy too" Ife says
"Do fast o, I need to get home early" I tell them, Dorothy grabs Ife's hand and they both walk away to the man who sells the suya
"Do you want me to give you money to buy the credit?" Akin asks me
"If you want" I shrug, the truth is I wanted to say yes but I didn't want to seem desperate
"Oya take" He digs into his pocket and brings out a 1000 naira note, he gives me the money "But don't tell Dorothy o, she will kill me"
"I won't, thank you" I smile

"Are you crazy?!" I hear my dad shout from downstairs
What is wrong with this man naw?, Somebody cannot have peace in this house again, to sleep is wahala
"Better go and bring my food before I descend on you today" He shouts again
My phone rings again, I press the decline button, Akin has been calling me since but I could not pick it, he'll hear my dad's voice and start asking me questions
I open my WhatsApp to text him
Dieko: I'm busy atm, I'll call you back later
Akin: What are you doing?
Dieko: Aproko, please mind your business 😂, I don't know why you're like this
Akin: Me shey?, I'm the aproko😂
Dieko: Ogbeni please go and sleep, Goodnight 😂
I switch off my phone, I couldn't hear dad's voice anymore, I drift off to sleep thinking of my dad and his sudden change in attitude

"Good afternoon Uncle Babatunde" I go down on both knees as I greet my father's elder brother, the head of the family
"Diekolola, how are you?"
"I'm fine sir"
I watch in awe as he enters the house with a young woman, the woman's belly is big indicating that she is pregnant, I stare at her, this woman can not be older than twenty-five, that one is not even my business, what is she doing here?
"Baba wa, ekaasan (Our father, Good afternoon)" My mother goes down on both knees too, it's a common sign of respect in the Yoruba culture
"Omolola, bawo ni? (how are you?)"
"We're fine, sir"
My daddy descends the stairs, I greet him too not because I want to but because I have to
"Diekolola, go upstairs" Uncle Babatunde orders
I climb the stairs with the cup of water I've been drinking wondering who that woman is, when I get to my room, I leave the door open a crack so I can see and hear them
Uncle Babatunde clears his throat before speaking
"Omolola" He calls
"Sir"
"Meet your new wife, Folake"
I almost choke on the water I'm drinking, did I hear right?
"Sir?"
"Your new wife, her name is Folake and she's two months pregnant for your husband" Uncle Babatunde says like it's nothing, God don't be offended o but this man is very wicked, if mummy was his own sister, would he carry his two legs and bring another woman to meet her at home?
"Goke, tell me this is not true" My mum turns to my father, her voice cracks at the end as tears threaten to fall from her eyes, I was so happy Damilola wasn't at home, she had gone for her extra weekend classes as she was in JSS3 which was an exam class
My father doesn't say anything, he just looks away
"Goke please" My mum starts to cry "We have been married for sixteen years, you can't do this to me"
"Omolola, there's no need crying over spilt milk, Folake is carrying my son" My dad says, how can he open his mouth and say such?
"Oya Folake kneel down and greet your senior wife" Uncle Babatunde says
The shameless woman who has her face heavily caked with make-up kneels down in front of my mother, my mum just keeps crying, her shoulders shaking
"Good afternoon iyaale (senior wife)" She says in a high pitched voice, I loathe her already
"Embrace your junior wife, Omolola" Uncle Babatunde says with that his smelling mouth
I roll my eyes closing the door before going to my bed and crying for the umpteenth time this week, why did daddy get another woman pregnant?
