xii. don't tell 'em

Oakley stood her room, a cigarette between her lips as she faced the window and looked at the setting sun.

Hugging her arms to her body, she tried to hold herself together to keep from falling apart.

She could hear her parents arguing though the wall, their voices viciously attacking each other, while all she could do was sit back and watch.

She was about to text Harvey when her phone rang, and coincidentally, it was him.

"Hey," she answered quietly, rubbing her hand against her eyelids. "What's up?"

"You okay?" Harvey asked, concern peaking in his tone. "You sound upset."

"Yeah, it's nothing I can't handle," she brushed off his worry and tried to cheer herself up. "So why'd you call?"

"For advice," He admitted. "About Lennon."

Oakley closed her eyes and sighed once again. "Harvey..."

"Please help me!" The fear in his voice made her stop. "I am so afraid I'm gonna fuck this whole thing up with her and I like her so much, more than you even know and I don't want to mess it up, I-FUCK. I AM SO WORRIED ABOUT A GODDAMN GIRL AND I JUST-"

"Harvey, Harvey!" She stopped him mid-sentence, almost amazed at the raw emotion he held for this one girl.

"I sound like a fucking idiot, don't I?" He responded, groaning through the phone. "All this for just a girl."

"No, you sound like a fucking idiot with a crush on a girl," Oakley countered, a smile brightening up her face. "Are you taking her out, or..."

"I'm going to her basketball game tonight, then I'll take her out to that spot-"

"No, you fucking retard, everyone knows that where you take girls you wanna fuck," she spat at him, rolling her eyes. "Take her to a different place, somewhere that means something to you."

Harvey was silent over the receiver and she would've thought he hung up if it weren't for his breathing. "Okay, okay. Can we meet up after so I can tell you how it went?"

"What are you, a pubescent girl?" She questioned with a laugh, her eyes gazing out at the setting sun.

"Shut-shut the fuck up, Oak," he stammered, before hanging up the phone.

Her sour mood was shortly forgotten as she felt happy that for once. Harvey was finally doing the right thing on his own accord.
