It was a perfectly spent afternoon with my family. Small talks leading to endless recollection of memories forgotten or not, singing along with the whistling of the wind and the humming of birds around us, the sweet aroma of flowers and the fresh smell of grass lingering around the place. I couldn't have asked for more. Twilight sets in reminding us it was time to go.
"Dad remember I told you guys we have a surprise destination?" I asked, dad responded with a nod
"Follow my car, okay?" I uttered
"Okay" dad replied
We drove out of town and as we entered the city, lights were starting to light up the streets, the sound of cars honking drowned the sound of nature transitioning from a serene atmosphere to somewhat a chaotic one, the kind of chaos life simply has.
We parked at a nearby parking lot, dad, Amarra, and Ash stepped out of the car looking dumb-founded at where I brought them.
"Where are you really taking us?" Astrid asked as she giggled
"Remember when I told you that I met an old lady who knew me and my family so well, specially my mom?" I questioned
"Yeah, you even showed me a picture she had of you guys, what about her?" She asked furrrowing her eyebrows
"We're going to visit her, we'll also have dinner at her restaurant, I wanted to take my family on a trip down memory lane and I want her to meet you" I answered
"Really? I can't wait to meet her" she exclaimed
Astrid and I stepped out of the car and headed towards my family.
"Follow me" I uttered trying to keep my smile a secret
As we near the place I could tell dad and Amarra are still baffled but started to remember the place. Soon after, we arrived at Michiko's Place, dad and Amarra's face light up at the sight.
"Y-you remember this place?" Dad asked me stammering on his words
"I stumbled upon this place and met Michiko, she told me about how this place brought our family so much memories" I replied
All of us immediately went inside. Gran was already there who also greeted us with a warm smile.
"I'm glad you came to visit again" she uttered excitedly
Dad became emotional as he wrapped Michiko in an embrace
"Oh Harry, my boy" Michiko tried holding her tears back as she hugged dad back
"I missed you all so much" said Michiko who was now holding Ash
"Your mom, Athena, would've loved to see you guys back here" said Michiko
"Gran, I also want you to meet Astrid, my girlfriend" I uttered
"Nice to meet you Astrid, take care of Alanna for me okay? You both look great together" Gran replied
"Nice to meet you too, I'll take care of her, I promise" Astrid answered
We sat near the window where me and mom used to count cars together. I started interlacing memories I made with the savoury smell the place is encompassed with whether they were memories I had forgotten or not.
