TW: brief mentions of cancer and suicide, there will be some lines (___) indicating when this happens, and also when we move away from the subject- love you all. Don't pressure your mind if it's fragile.

Tbh this chapter is giving me weird vibes. It was great when I thought it up in my head, but after I wrote it down... neh.

And sorry for the wait by the way- I been busy. This chapter is a bit longer than usual to make up for it though.

"Why are you acting like you just had 6 Redbulls?" Allen looked at me with a raised eyebrow, his eyes shifting down to my bouncing legs.

I shrugged and looked back out the window. "I'm just... excited to see my grandparents," my eye ran over the buildings as we drove by them. They were slowly becoming more and more familiar- we'd be in the slums in a few minutes.

He didn't answer. The minute passed by, and then we finally reached the gates. Connected to a 5 meter tall, one-meter thick brick wall with electric barbed wire on top. We drove through the gates, which were always closed at night- a security measure.

We drove past the depressing grey apartment buildings for a few minutes, before he finally took a left turn and drove in the direction of the door leading to the stairwell you'd have to go through to get to my parent's apartment. He stopped in front of it. I heard him sigh behind me.

"I can't believe there are people living in this place," he muttered, so quietly I almost didn't hear. He turned his eyes to me. "Call your parents and tell them we're here, please, Love," he said, more softly this time.

Pulling the phone out of my pocket, I went through my... let's be honest, sadly short list of contacts and pressed found the number for our home phone. I looked back up to the windows, the ringing continued, and I gave up after the 3rd. "They're not picking up, I'll go up there and get them," I opened the door and got out, turning my head at the sound of Allen doing the same.

"What are you doing?"

He looked at me with a dead expression."I am not letting you into that deathtrap on your own- I need to be there to help you free of the rubble in case the thing falls apart," he looked back up at the building with suspicious eyes.

I rolled my eyes. "I've lived there my entire life, I think I'll manage," I headed for tef'door, slowly tapping in the code. My eyes rolled once again when I heard him behind me, following me up the stairs. He muttered something that sounded like 'architectural nightmare' behind me.

We finally reached the top floor, and I went up to the door, knocking twice. "Hello?"

I couldn't help but smile at the sound of her voice- no matter how little time we spent apart, I always missed her, or rather; I always missed both of them. "Hey mom, it's me," I said through the door.

She opened the door, hugging me the second I came into view. "I called you from the car- I got worried that you guys weren't home, that you'd been called to work or something"

She pulled away from me, gesturing with her head to the little end table next to the armrest by the couch, in which my dad was sitting- where the phone was placed, in the charger. "Oh, sorry, the phone charger broke yesterday,"

"Where is the bathroom?"

Both of our heads turned to Allen, who was looking around the small apartment with horror in his eyes. His eyes went from the wallpaper that had once been white but now had a greenish shine, to the fridge with rust at the edges, to the small dining table with three different chairs placed around it- home.
