18: Black Rider

He hated the nickname given to him: Black Rider. But then what else will they call him?

In the Philippines where there's always heavy traffic, assassins used motorcycles. Cars won't be useful for escapes. But for hire assassins usually work in duos, Black Rider doesn't.

He has always waited for this, a chance to kill Alfredo Fajardo. He won't do it on his hometown. No, that'll be dangerous given how every Fajardo men could be found in all corners.

There's not much Black Rider murders lately, because Black Rider has a personal life. As for the reason why he's doing this... is his own form of justice. Police and the authorities won't understand. Why would they if they're under the pockets of the very people Black Rider is trying to kill?

Sa Ganza, iisang sasakyan lang ang ginagamit ni Alfredo Fajardo. Pero sa ibang lugar, gumagamit ito ng magarang sasakyan at naka wang-wang pa.

What a pretentious asshole.

Black Rider also sides with the Navarros, he's always been with them. Alfredo Fajardo has always been on his kill list. Except this time, he is not on his usual black 50s leather jacket and black helmet. He, however was using his signature black motorcycle which people won't suspect as Black Rider's because he has been a trend. Everybody else is using his helmet, his jacket, his motorcycle. Isa pa, Black Rider moves at night. He has to make exceptions for the Fajardo.

People aren't suspecting him because he looks like any other rider. Isa pa, he has a decoy. Another motorcycle is one the other side of the car, someone that completely looks like Black Rider. Five shots and the deed is done: three to break the glass, two into Alfredo Fajardo's head.

Binilisan ni Black Rider ang pagpapatakbo, nang nakatapat na siya sa bintana ng sasakyan ni Alfredo Fajardo, he fired the shots.

A man was down but it wasn't him! It wasn't his target. Then a head popped out, his very alive target started shooting. Another set of gunshots came from the decoy Black Rider.

Real Black Rider drifted into a U-turn. He held up his hand to signal the decoy to return. They have to escape.

The concrete road is not an option anymore. Binilisan nila ang pagpapatakbo habang sinasalubong ang mga sasakyan. Real Black Rider shifted into the other side of the road and decoy followed. Nagkatinginan sila nang makarinig ng sirena ng pulis.

Real Black Rider nodded to decoy.

Oh the chase in on.

Their plan was dangerous but they could only hope it works. After all he trusts decoy. The plan was to lead the men chasing them into a dead end. Decoy will speed up into a wall and turn left on the small space to completely escape. Since the police cars and motorcycles chasing them are too stupid to speed up, decoy hopes they'll bump on the wall.

And they did. Alam ni decoy dahil narinig niya ang tunog ng isang nabanggang bumper at nabasag na mga salamin bago tuluyang umalis. Siya ang nakaisip ng ideyang ito.

Meanwhile, real Black Rider will do a detour and go back to their headquarters. They're supposed to meet there.

Black Rider shifted his motorcycle so he's up in the air, leaping at the piece of metal guarding the road. His motorcycle landed smoothly on solid ground. He's now driving on a path with rocks and plants. He rides with ease because he's good at this. He's trained for this.

Alfredo Fajardo cheated death. Naiinis na wika ni Black Rider sa sarili. Pero mas importanteng ligtas siya. Kamusta kaya ang partner niya?

He isn't a religious person but right now, he can only pray his accomplice is safe.

"Sino naman 'tong putang inang Black Rider na 'to?!" inis na wika ng detective. Hindi niya sinasadyang mapasigaw. It's probably her woman mood swings.

"Ma'am, his crimes usually revolved around Manila. Pero lately may naging target siya sa Laguna, sa South." paliwanag ng lalaki sa tabi niya.

"At bakit naforward sa atin?" pagtataka niya. Hindi niya gustong ma-assign sa bayan ng Ganza pero ano pa nga ba magagawa niya. Napag-iinitan siya ng higher ups dahil bilang babae, ang dami ng mga kasong nareresolba niya. This kind of power play exists in almost any office. Mahal lang ni Kristy ang trabaho niya kaya hindi na siya umangal.

"Si Mayor. Pinapabantay sa atin. Baka raw makaabot dito." sagot ng isang junior detective niya, si Christian.

"Para raw siyang si Robin Hood. He targets rich and prominent people. At ginagawa niya kapag nakasakay 'yung target niya sa sasakyan nito. Kaya binigyan nila ng palayaw ang mga krimen niya - limousine crimes." paliwanag ng isa pa niyang junior, si Dave.

"Limousine huh?"

"Itong Black Rider na 'to, instead of the usual riding-in-tandem, mag-isa lang siya. At mga prominenteng tao target niya." pag-uulit ni Christian.

"So, takot ang mayor natin na baka ma-target siya ni Black Rider?" tanong ni Kristy.

"Bakit hindi siya mahuli-huli?" dagdag na tanong niya.

"Magandang klase daw kasi ng motor ang gamit niya. Tsaka para siyang anino na bigla-bigla nalang nawawala," sagot ni Dave.

"Parang naging fashion statement na rin si Black Rider sa mga nagmo-motor. Ang hirap tuloy niyang hulihin." dagdag ni Christian, ang detective na palagi niyang katrabaho. Tatatlo silang detective na assigned sa bayang ito.

"Kung nagpapaka-Robin Hood ito, ang tanong ko, kailan pa naging heroic act ang pagpatay?" tanong ng detective.

"Sa mga pinapatay niya detective. Ang mga pinapatay niya ay mga politician na may mga pending na kaso, mga mayayaman na abusado," sagot ni Dave.

"Isa pa, pabor ang mga tao sa ginagawa niya. May facebook fan club pa nga siya." dagdag ni Christian. Hindi makapaniwala si Kristy sa kanyang mga narinig.

A murderer being glorified?

"Sa sobrang walang tiwala ng mga tao sa law enforcement, napipilitan silang pagkatiwalaan ang mga kawatan," hindi makapaniwalang wika ni Kristy. Totoo naman. Kahit anong gawin nila, hangga't may mga pulis na abusado, mabaho at mabaho ang pangalan nila sa masa.

"Isa pa, dumadami ang patay na mga teenager. May kinalaman kaya si Black Rider dito?" pagtatanong naman ni Christian. Mula nakaraang linggo, napansin din ni Kristy ang dami ng missing persons case, pati sa bayan ng Ganza. Hindi naman ito katulad ng puting van na urban legend lang.

"Pero bakit teenager? Tsaka nakikita ang mga katawan nila matapos silang mawala matapos ang dalawa hanggang anim na buwan. Minsan taon pa," dagdag naman ni Dave.

"Padami nang padami ang trabaho natin." sagot ni Christian.

"Well, boys. We have no choice but to go back to work." wika ng punong detective sa kanyang mga associate.
