You awkwardly stared at the man in front of you.

The breach alarms were still going off. The man in front of you was SCP-073, someone you had interviewed multiple times. For some reason he came all the way back to get you, looking horribly worried. "Come on (y/n), we really need to leave." He gently grabbed your hand. It was hard and cold to the touch. You nodded slightly, not sure how to react. He took you with him. He was on edge, ready to protect you from anything. "Do you know who or what caused the breach SCP-073?" SCP-073 shook his head. "No i didn't see it. And please, call me Cain."

You walked as close to him as possible. Somehow it felt safe, and warm. "Alright then Cain." There was a moment of silence before you spoke again. "Why did you attempt to save me out of everyone, i'm not that important." Cain avoided your gaze, looking to the floor. "You might not mean alot to them, but you mean everything to me." Was his answer. This confused you a little, but you were somewhat satisfied with his reply. You noticed he started to walk backwards, looking horrified.

"Hey, whats wrong?" You turned your head to see what he was looking at.. SCP-106. "Oh no.." You muttered, stumbling backwards. "Run! Get out of here." He motioned towards the nearby door. You didn't want to leave Cain behind, but you didn't have choice. You mentally screamed as you narrowly escaped. Judging by 106's frustration, Cain was distracting him succesfully, for now at least. You took one of the elevators down, leaning against one of the walls. You stepped out, watching your surroundings. You approached one of the cells. "SCP-409?" You had never heard off this SCP. Maybe it could help.

You entered the containment cell, somewhat curious. There in a box, stood a crystal. You tripped over a corpse in front of you, and fell over. Your hand grabbed the crystal, trying to look for support. On the floor was a file. You picked up up and began to read it.

You dropped the file, shaking

You dropped the file, shaking. Now you HAD to find Cain, your life depended on it. You ran out of the containment area, all the way back to the elevator. Rapidly pressing the button, you entered and waited for it to take you back up. "C-Cain!?" You called out as you stepped out of the elevator. There was no reply, maybe he was still chased by SCP-106.

~Timeskip~

You arm was now fully crystalized. Your leg was dragging behind you as you cried out in pain and fell onto the floor. This wasn't how you wanted to die, not like this. "(y/n)!?" A voice yelled behind you. Two arms picked you up carefully, but swiftly. "Ca-Cain?" You were no longer capable of opening your right eye. You stared at him with a half crystalized left eye. "Oh no..." He muttered as he began running, trying to get there on time. Your sight was gone for the most part, but you could see him enter the observation area of SCP-035's containment cell. You could no longer see, so you listened.

Silence.

"Oh thank god, someone actually found me!"

"SCP-035, drop the act."

"Ah, Cain. What a surprise."

"Please, just help me."

"So desperate."

"Where is SCP-500?"

"In the room behind you."

Footsteps.

"It's locked!"

"I can give you the code, if you let me out."

"Give me the code and i'll let you out."

"Promise?"

"Promised."

~Cain's POV~

I shot SCP-035 a pleading look, motioning to (y/n), who was suffering in my arms. "Alright then. 5-7-3-1, got it?" I held my breath as i entered the code.  It worked. I couldn't contain my relief. But i wasn't the most important person right now. Inside the room were a couple of items, along with a pill of SCP-500. I quickly took it and sat down, placing (y/n) on my lap. "Here, please swallow this." She groaned in pain for a bit, but obliged. Slowly the crystals pulled themselves back into her body, before vanishing completely. It took a while, but she was safe. That was all that mattered.

She was too weak to stand up, so i picked her up once more. "Well? What about my freedom?" SCP-035 impatiently asked. I didn't want to let him out, but i had promised it to him. I pulled the handle. The doors opened for SCP-035. He looked at me, then left. I had to get (y/n) out of here. I wasn't going to die, but she could. She was peacefully asleep, or perhaps just passed out due to the pain and shock. I felt guilty, could have prevented this if it wasn't for that old man. There was a long road ahead of us, but i refused to let her die.

~Timeskip and back to (y/n)~

You heard some loud noises. Opening your eyes revealed you were in a helicopter. "What.. what happened?" You groaned. You didn't get enough time to recover as you were quickly pulled into a hug. There, sitting on the floor next to you.. was Cain. "I thought i had lost you!" He cried. You placed your arms around his shoulders. The MTF who had saved you were awkwardly watching it go down. "I still don't know why i was saved and not some senior researcher." You mumbled. He cupped your face, forcing you to look at him. Cain then brought his face closer to yours. He waited for a while, then placed his lips against yours.

"Need i say more?"

"Shut up.."
