He had a father before, but he ran away with Marlow, his adopted brother and a togepi after puncturing his own father's eye with his claw. Matthew has never seen his father again after years and he never told anyone about him, not even Elizabeth and Marco. Marco was curious about it, so he went to the forest by himself, looking for the father. Soon, he came upon a flock of murderous Murkrows in a deserted house and were leaded by a bigger Honchkrow with his eye punctured out. Marco realized that Honchkrow was Matthew's father. Back at the ranch, you didn't noticed that Marco was gone until you see Matthew looking around. You asked him what he's doing and he asks if you saw Marco anywhere, making yourself concern.
