"They said they were coming, right?"
"Yes, for the third time, they're coming in costumes and everything."
"I'm so excited! There are no couples our age. Now there's a young couple who moves across the street! We can finally do stuff our age like go to clubs and bars."
"Awe, so you hate movie and bingo night with our 60 plus neighbors?"
"Do you think they'll be mad? That we didn't invite them?"
"Rachel, relax. We're going to have a good time with our new neighbors and our old ones will be just fine."
She makes a face as he smirks at her. "See what I did there?"
"The doorbell, I'll get it!"
"I didn't hear anything..."
She looks at them through the peephole, "Mike, it's them!"
"Hi! Come on in! Your costumes are very... unique."
They stare at her for a second before stepping in. As they sat on the couch, no one uttered a word.
Mike just stared, "Hi?"
Again no response.
"Rachel? Can you help me in the kitchen?"
"Sure."
He pulls her in, "What the hell is wrong with them?"
"What do you mean?"
"Last time we spoke with them we could barely get a word in. Now they won't even speak. And why are they wearing paper bags over there heads?"
"Don't judge. They're trying."
Mike shakes his head at her as the phone rings, "Parker residence."
"Mike hi! We're on our way, my silly husband got his underwear stuck in his costume. We're leaving now. See you in a bit."
He hangs up and lays the phone down.
"Who was that?"
"Our new neighbors."
""What? They called us from the living—
He slowly shakes his head and whispers, "That's not them."
They stare at the kitchen door, frozen with fear and the unknown of who or what was on the other side.
