Hallowe'en

James Potter sat in the living room right in front the door of their house. He felt fidgety, spinning his wand between his fingers. Lily had asked him to be extra cautious with a baby at home. She was scared he might cast a non-verbal spell without meaning to do so. It definitely wouldn't be the first time, the cracks on their walls was a proof of that.

However, she knew James wasn't doing this on purpose. The man had been on edge because of the war. He carried his wand everywhere, even from one room to another as if he was scared of being attacked in his own house.

James also made sure that Lily carried her wand, but even with that reassurance the man never let her or Harry out of his gaze for long. After all, he feels responsible for both of them. James Potter would die before letting someone touch a hair on his wife or son's head.

To give himself some peace, he would often think back to a time when there was no possibility of war. On the same day 5 years back, they had thrown a party at Hogwarts. Each one of them wore crazy costumes.

The Marauder's entered in a group, each disguised as one of their teachers. He remembered sitting in a corner the whole time because he saw Lily in a gorgeous fairy costume talk to a Ravenclaw. He had stroked his fake Dumbledore beard with irritation

James had watched as the boy kept trying to hold her attention, maybe make her laugh but then there was Lily, she kept looking around the room, restlessly alive, her green eyes darting everywhere. She's not interested in you, he'd thought with satisfaction.

Lily and Harry headed in for a nap but James remained in his position near the door when he suddenly shifted his gaze towards the window. He saw a swift movement. Right at that moment, James felt a disturbance in the protective charms around the house and screamed for Lily.

She came rushing down and he immediately asked her to go upstairs and keep Harry safe, the woman understood immediately also feeling the intrusion in their wards. However, she told him that she would stay right here and fight with him.

"I would not let him or anything as dark as him come even near my little boy", she said with a determined voice that James was very well familiar with. "James Potter, you must be crazy if you think I am going to let you fight alone."

And this was Lily Potter nee Evans, she was determined, fierce and one of the smartest and strongest woman James had ever had the pleasure to meet. He knew that once she took a stand she was not going to budge.

So he nodded and desperately rushed trying to make contact with anyone who could help them, he managed to get the Weasleys and Sirius who was already with Lupin. James had also tried reaching Peter but failed to do so.

After a couple of minutes the couple stood firm at the door. Lily tried casting more protective charms, but they kept wearing off.

The door opened with a creak and there he was, The Dark Lord. Voldemort. The dark entity's name translated to flight of death in french. James thinks that it's true, Voldemort really was the commander of death and destruction.

The dark lord did not wait as he casted attacking curses, all of them were directed towards James.

Lily noticed this and tried cast attacking spells on him as James tried defensive ones to help himself. Voldemort seemed to be intended on not harming Lily as he used 'Rictusempra' on her, the tickling charm. It was not damaging, it was distracting. While they wondered the reason for this, Voldemort kept thinking of his promise to Snape to try not hurt Lily.
