Alicanto

Mythology: Chilean

Habitat: Desert of Atacama

The Alicanto's wings are known to shine beautiful, metalic colors during the night. Their eyes release strange lights.

This bird was the symbol of luck to any miner who sees it.

They are known to dwell in small hills containing minerals, and feed on gold and silver.

A miner who spots an Alicanto and follows it without being caught, will be able to get gold and silver. However, if it catches a miner following, this bird will guide the greedy miner to a cliff and make them fall to their doom.

Sometime this creature is confused with the Alicante, which is the mexican snake.
