~ Warning! small BotFA spoilers! ~

I had a talk with the wizard after I had made sure (y/n) was doing alright. There was a weird feeling in her stomach when my hand rested there, but I wasn't sure what it was. I would make sure to find out after the battle was over. Gandalf told me there was an army of orcs approaching the mountain. We had just reclaimed it and we already had to defend it. First I wasn't sure how we would do it. The people of Lake Town had arrived yesterday. Most of them had fallen ill or were killed by the fire. There weren't many man left among them. Only a few of them would be able to fight.

My Company had been loyal until this point and I was sure they would fight in this war, but there were only thirteen of us. We had Gandalf on our side and a brave halfling but that wouldn't be enough against an army of orc's. The wizard had informed me (y/n) had already sent a raven to my cousin. To make sure he would come I also send a raven. We needed his army to survive this war.

It was only my second day as King under the Mountain but the burden was already on my shoulders. There wasn't enough food to feed all the people here, and we couldn't defend ourselves properly if there was an attack. I laid down beside (y/n) who had already fallen asleep. My eyes wandered over the ceiling and the walls of my old bedroom. It reminded me of a peaceful time where I didn't have to worry about my people like I did now. (Y/N) sighed deeply and I smiled. If only I could protect this mountain to protect my One. No harm would come upon her as long as I was here. I couldn't let that happen. Watching her sleeping peacefully allowed my eyes to close as well.

I snuggled up to her and hold her close in my arms. This was the way it was meant to be. If only we could have more time together.

Bilbo didn't have to be on watch that night but he had offered to take over from Dwalin. The hobbit knew the dwarf wanted to be with Kim, and he couldn't sleep anyway. He watched the elves settling down in the ruïnes of Esgaroth and smiled to himself. Maybe it would all turn out alright. Maybe now they had a chance to survive this war. Bilbo's face turned sour. You could feel the tension in the halls of the mountain. Everyone knew what was coming. This could be even worse then not knowing. Thorin had looked worried but determined when Gandalf had told him. If Thorin was worried, shouldn't they all be? Bilbo sighed and stretched his legs. He was sure the wizard would have a plan. He just hoped it was a good plan.

You woke up the next morning to find you were in bed alone. Thorin had probably left early to look after the people of Lake Town, and maybe he had found out about the elves. Judging from the shouting noises you could hear you presumed it was the last one. You got up and walked down the hallway. On your way you came across Bilbo who was more then happy to see you. '(Y/N)! Are you alright?' he asked worried and hugged you tightly. 'Aye, I am master Baggins. If only people would stop asking me that' you chuckled. 'Well, that's what you get when you are courting a dwarf' Bilbo pointed out. 'Everyone was worried about you. Especially Fili and Kili.' You smiled at the hobbit.

'Thorin told me all about it.' New noises greeted you down the hallway and your curiosity was captured. 'What is that?' Bilbo asked, looking in the same direction as you. 'I don't know, would you care to find out?' Without waiting for an answer you followed the noise until you reached a large hall. Thranduil was standing in the middle of the room, with an amused smile on his face. Bard stood in between Thorin and another dwarf. '...WILL NOT FIGHT TOGETHER WITH AN ELF!' the second dwarf shouted. Bilbo and you exchanged looks. Bard seemed to try to negotiate but judging on his exasperated sigh he wasn't doing a good job. 'Master dwarf you have to work together to fight the enemy!' Gandalf shouted back.

Thranduil smiled and turned his head to look at the rest of room. He spotted you and Bilbo standing in the doorway. He bowed. 'Lady (y/n). How are you doing?' he asked politely. The bickering stopped and everyone turned their attention to you. Except for Thorin who was now glaring at the elf. You bowed in return. 'I'm doing fine. And you my lord?' Thorin huffed and walked towards you, swinging a possessive arm around you. 'How did you met?' he asked in a gruff voice. 'We were introduced when she came asking for my help in war' Thranduil answered. Thorin narrowed his eyes and looked at Gandalf. 'We need their help to fight the orc's, that's the only way we can beat them.'
