AMBER P.O.V. –

“Oh my God.” I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I heard Aug’s footsteps coming up the stairs.

I had thought today he would’ve gone to work, but I guess not.

He had dropped the kids off at school and came back home. He had done this the entire week and while I appreciated his kindness, taking off work to be with me, he has been annoying thee hell, THEE UTTER HELL out of me.

I quickly closed my eyes and pretended I was sleep as I heard his large footsteps getting closer to the bedroom door.

“Babe.” He called out before he walked in the room.

I tried to remain fake sleep, taking a page out of Auggie’s book. That boy loved to play sleep.

“Babe.” He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed in front of me, and softly kissed my forehead.

Maybe if I played sleep long enough he’d disappear.

“Babe.” He gently shook me.

Seeing as he wasn’t going to leave me alone,  I mentally sighed then partially opened my eyes and answered in a sleepy tone.

“Yes August.”

“How you feeling?” He touched my head to see if I had a fever.

“I’m alright.” I pulled myself up.

He straightened the pillow out behind my back.

“On a scale from 1 to ten, what does your pain feel like?”

“It’s not that bad.”

“Give me a number?”

“3.”

“You got a numb or pins and needles sensation?”

“No August I don’t.”

He turned his attention to my foot, examining the cast.

“Wiggle your toes for me.”

This was so stupid. See what I go through everyday ?

“August.”

“Come on babe. The doctor said you should be able to do it. I just want to make sure everything is normal.”

I wiggled my toes on the side that had the cast.

“Wiggle em’ on the other side.” He turned his attention to my other foot.

I wiggled my other toes.

“Now together.”

He looked at both my feet. He looked like a complete idiot staring at my feet.

“They doing better. Is your skin itchy or irritated?” He examined the skin around my cast.

“No August.”

“Good. Well I’mma go get your oatmeal. So you can eat. Okay?”

“Okay.”

He kissed my lips then left out.

Don’t get me wrong, what he was doing was an absolute sweet gesture. But we did this same drill everyday and quite frankly it was annoying. I didn’t need to be treated like a baby. I didn’t like being treated that way. I wasn’t crippled.

I heard his footsteps back up the stairs.

“Oh God.” I mumbled under my breath.

“It’s blueberry today.” He walked in the room stirring it and sat on the edge of the bed.
