AUGUST P.O.V.
“Let me do it.” Sata giggled as she held her hand out. She was sitting on the sink while, I was getting ready. She was begging to shave my face.
“Unh-Unh.”
“Whyyyyyyyyyy?”
“Because daddy love his face and he don’t want you cutting it up.” I said while brushing my teeth.
“But when I get a man, I need to do his.”
“You ain’t getting no man.” I spit out the toothpaste and rinsed my mouth.
“Uh-huh. I got one now.”
“You got one now?” I looked at her.
“Yes.” She shyly giggled.
“What’s his name?” I drank some mouth wash, then gargled.
“I’m not telling you.” She shook her head.
I spit it out. “Why?”
“Cause you gon beat him up.”
“Munch now you know daddy better than that. I ain’t gon go beat him up.”
She shook her head no.
“Come on tell Pop-Pop. I just want to know.”
“You promise you ain’t gon beat him up?”
“Promise.” I held out my pinky finger to her.
We did a Pinky shake.
“Octavian.”
“Octagon? That’s a shape. ”
“Nooooooo. Octavian.” She giggled.
“What type of name is that?”
“It’s his name!” She defended him.
“He in your class?”
She shook her head yes.
“Aight so when I drop you off at school today, I’m not gon beat him up.”
“Good.”
“I’mma stuff him in a locker.”
“Daddyyyyyyyy!” Sata said loudly.
I laughed got my shaving cream out my shaving bag.
“Please don’t do that. My heart would be broken.” She gave a sad face and dramatically touched her heart.
I bursted out laughing.
She sucked her teeth. “That’s not funny daddy.”
“It is. You’re six. What you know about heartbreak?”
“A lot.”
“A lot?” I put the shaving cream on my face.
“Mm-hmm. He…he broke my heart when he talked about my hair so I had to beat him up.”
“That’s the little boy you beat up?”
She shook her head yes.
“But he…he bought me a gift so we in love again.”
“A gift? Shouldn’t no little boys be buying you gifts.”
“You buy mommy gifts all the time.”
“Me and your mother are married.” I started shaving my face.
“Me and Octavian getting married when we get big.”
