Quick Notes:

1.) due to the sensitivity of domestic violence and the fact that there are real victims if you don't have supportive comments don't write them below. There are a plethora of reasons women stay, stupidity is not always one. Some women do leave and are shot dead by their abusers. It's complicated so... Just be silent if you think she's stupid, etc.

2.) it's not Trey songz so Trey fans shut up lol

3.) did a pic show up last chapter? I see it, but I don't know if you do?

August POV-

I groggily got up in the darkness to use the bathroom. I flipped on the bathroom light. Lifted the toilet seat, did what I had to do, flushed the toilet. Then of course washed my hands.

I rubbed my eyes and scratched my head as I flipped off the light and walked back into the darkness of my room.

I got in my bed, looking to pull my wife into me, when all I felt was an empty space.

"Amb." I sat up. There was no response. I brushed it off as maybe one of the kids got scared and she went to check on them.

I turned over to go back to sleep, but quickly opened my eyes when I heard a door downstairs close.

I sat up and looked around in the darkness, seeing if I heard anything else.

It sounded like the basement door. Why was Amb down there? Especially at 3 in the morning when she had work tomorrow. Well this morning.

Maybe she was feeling some discomfort from the baby and had to move around. Either way I wasn't chancing it.

I slid into my slides and went down stairs. She wasn't in any of the living room or kitchen areas so I knew I had heard right the basement.

I softly opened the door.

"Amb!" I called downstairs.

"Huh?" I heard her shuffling papers and sniffling.

I walked downstairs to see she had dropped a file on the floor.

She was about to get out of the chair to get it.

"I got it." I picked it up.

She wiped her eyes with some Kleenex.

"What's wrong?" I handed her back the file.

"Nothing. Couldn't sleep."

I motioned for her to get up so I could sit down in the recliner and she sit back on me.

She did and slowly back on me.

"Why you working this late babe? I told Omari about that shit. I'mma see him tomorrow."

" it's not him." She wiped her nose.

"Then why are you up at damn near four in the morning going through files?"

"This young girl came into my office and I was looking at her file. Her ribs have been broken. Her jaw knocked out of place. She's 18 August. I had a chance to save her and I couldn't." She broke down.

"Did she die?"

"No but she might. She just walked out.
But I could tell she wanted my help."

"Amber stop. Right fucking now. Cause I see where this shit is going."

"It's my job August." she wiped her eyes.

"This is what I am taking about your savior complex. Always thinking you can save people. Let that shit go. You cannot save everybody. Somebody come to you for help fine. Do your job. Do not get involved in trying to save people who don't want to be saved. Do your hear me?"

She just wiped her eyes.

"Do you hear me?"

"Yes August."

"Cause we not losing this baby over you fucking stressing out over this job. If it keeps being like this, imma make you quit. You got five worries. Auggie,
O, Sata , me and the new baby. That's it. All that other shit let it go."

"Her abuser is 30 Aug. She is a baby. A baby. How could he do that?"

"You know what, you quitting tomorrow. I knew this was a bad idea for one reason or another."

"No August I hear you. It's just hard. These are people's lives and O and Chad don't care."

"They care. they just know how to keep work at work. And not let people who don't went help stress them out. Something you need to learn to do. Do your hear me?"

"Yeah."

"Cause when you dealing with people's drama and situations like that, that puts your life in danger too. And if a nigga puts his hands on my wife, cause you trying to save some stupid girl who doesn't want to be saved, they might as well give me life. And you pregnant too?" He shook his head profusely.

"Don't call her stupid. We don't know why she doesn't follow through. It's not always bLack and white. Some can't. "

"You heard what I said." I looked in her eyes. "Let it go Amber. Or you quitting. I'm not losing my new baby. And I'm not losing you. Are we clear?"

She shook her head yes.

"I need to hear you say yes."

"Yes." She started to tear.

"Come on let's go to bed." She got up and we went to bed.
