Compton, California

INOLA WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED THE past few days staying with Kendra. It was actually really nice and they hit it off instantly. Enrique also loved it here, even more than staying at Omari parent's house. Kendra was really cool and she was interacting with Inola like they were friends from way back.

Enrique was in the living room watching tv while Inola sat in the kitchen eating a bowl of cereal. She didn't know why she had been so hesitant to stay here at first. If she was honestly speaking, it had to be because French wasn't the most approachable person. He was an ass, he was rude, disrespectful, hostile and very unpleasant. So she assumed because Kendra was his mother she would be the exact same way.

Seeing how wonderful Kendra was just let her know that was French's personality all on his own. Joshua was laying on the couch with a small blanket over him as he was on his feeding tube. Both Inola and Kendra had their eyes on him.

At first when Kendra learned Inola was deaf she was shocked. French didn't have time to explain so she found out on her own. Communicating wasn't impossible as they'd been using pen and paper.

Kendra was cooking curry chicken for dinner, she had bought the roti since she didn't know how to make it.

While the chicken was on the stove in the pot, she opened the notebook they had been using to communicate with and went to a fresh page.

Do you have someone you're seeing romantically? Kendra questioned. The first few days she stuck to basic conversation; but as time went by she felt more comfortable to get more personal. They seemed to be hitting it off well enough to get a little personal even though they were strangers.

Yes, a fiancé. We've been together almost a year now, it's been eleven months.

You have a huge crush on French. Kendra wrote.

Inola looked up at Kendra, confused. She furrowed her eyebrows and shook her head from side to side slowly. She just told her she had a fiancé. I don't have a crush on French, I'm engaged to be married.

Kendra smiled at her trying to use that as an excuse to deny her feelings, but she could tell. The day French dropped her off she had been watching them through the curtains. The body language said it all.

That doesn't mean anything, you like him I can tell. The way you were looking at him that day he dropped you here. I was peeking through the curtains. It was like you didn't want him to leave. It's okay because my son likes you too, a lot. I could tell also. He kept his eyes on you until you came into the house.

Hearing that made Inola get jitters. French liked her? She didn't think he did, he didn't act like he did. Inola took the notebook and wrote something down, sliding it back over to Kendra.

I don't think he likes me, I'm deaf and not his type. He never gave me signs that he liked me. I think he just feels bad for me because of the predicament I'm in and wants to help me out.

He really feels something for you, honey. Trust me, I know my son. We haven't talked in over ten years and he comes here with a woman the first time in so long to beg me to look after. He really cares for you. I am worried about him though, you look exactly like his wife, it's why he may be so attached to you.

Inola bit her bottom lip, contemplating if she should ask about Uki or not. She knew she couldn't do it with French because he'd chew her head off. Kendra seemed cool enough to ask without receiving a negative reaction.

Inola glanced over at Joshua to make sure he was okay. The machine was halfway so he had a few more minutes on the tube.

She decided to be brave and ask. What was his wife like?
