Emmett's Girl

Chapter 29

Gemma hesitates to get out of her truck as she sits outside of the Cullen mansion about three days later, on Saturday. Apparently, according to Sam, the Cullens are back. All of them. Jasper, Rosalie, Carlisle, Esme, Chamberlin.

Emmett.

Gemma had to be demanded by Karen to go see her man, to be reunited with the guy that she loves. Boy, does Gemma love Emmett. But she's pissed that he left her. Pissed that he broke up with her, broke her heart, and left her to have the pieces picked up by guys who turned into giant dogs and a scarred human who baked heavenly muffins.

Gemma inhales deeply with her eyes closed and they snap open when she exhales. She finds Rosalie waiting on the porch like area that has, like, one step. Rose has her arms crossed and an impatient look on her face, a look that doesn't fail to put a smile on Gemma's face.

Gemma jumps out of her truck and runs. Rosalie catches her best friend and she twirls her around with a massive grin on her face. Gemma relaxes at the coldness of Rosalie's skin, and Rosalie easily ignores the wet dog smell that lingers on Gemma.

"Oh, god, I'm never, ever, ever, EVER leaving your precious self again," Rosalie says quickly as she releases Gemma go. "Damn. Look at you, you hottie."

Gemma smiles. She's wearing some skinny jeans, a black long sleeve shirt that looks like a bra, and some black heeled boots and a golden bracelet. Her blonde hair is straightened.

"I know," Gemma finally replies, making Emmett perk up inside. "I'm a hottie, Jas look. At. Me."

Rosalie grabs her hand and she drags her inside. Everyone but Edward, Alice, and Bella are sat around the den on the first floor. Gemma walks over to Jasper in a hurry and she hugs him, her other vampire best friend. Jas tenses, not used to the smell, but once he smells Gemma's familiar blood, he hugs her back, careful not to smother her.

Esme and Carlisle are the next on Gemma's reunion list. Esme hugs her tightly, dry sobbing. She's missed the girl who has become like a daughter to her. Carlisle hugs her after Esme is done and he pulls away.

"You look healthy," Carlisle compliments.

"Thanks?" Gemma turns to Chamberlin. "You ditched me before I could kick your butt at basketball."

The raven-haired vampire smirks and he shrugs. "Sorry? I'm here now."

Gemma nods and she looks at Emmett. Flashbacks of that day fill her head.

September 16, 2005

Emmett and Gemma sit in his room and he looks at her. He has a distant look in his eyes as he fiddles with his fingers. The silence is unnerving and it's making Gemma worry.

"What is it?" Gemma asks.

"I don't want you anymore," Emmett says bluntly as he looks her into her eyes.

"Wh-what?" Gemma gasps as she stands up quickly. "No... no..."

Emmett stands up and he gives her one last kiss. "This will be the last time you see me, Gemma Grace Newton. Goodbye."

Slap! Gemma bitch slaps Emmett across the face as soon as she remembers "goodbye". Emmett's face snaps to the side as Rosalie tries to hold back a laugh.

"You asshole!" Gemma snaps.

Emmett grimaces once he's left alone with the angry human. "Gemma, I'm sorry, okay? People were starting to notice ..."

"Oh, don't give me that excuse; not the one Edward used," Gemma snaps. "The women and teens alike fawn over Carlisle, and the men wished they could look that young. So don't use that recycled excuse. It's because of Jasper's slip up, wasn't it?"

"Yes."

"It wasn't Jasper's fault!" Gemma yells and Jasper tenses from upstairs. "He's an empath, in case you and the others forgot. He felt the test of your guys' blood lust. And him being new to the diet made it impossible to resist. That wasn't Jasper's fault. So you guys really had no other reason to leave besides you wanting to, Emmett McCarty."

"I still love you," Emmett states. "I never stopped."

"I know," Gemma says. "I never stopped, either, but I have a right to be pissed for a while."

"Of course," Emmett replies and he is surprised when Gemma throws herself into his arms, suddenly crying,

Emmett doesn't hesitate to hug her bag securely. Gemma pulls away and she goes upstairs.

"Guys," Gemma says, "Victoria is back."

"What about Laurent?" Rosalie asks. "Alice saw him go to bite you then nothing."

"The wolves saved my mortality right before he could bite me," Gemma says. "They became my second family after that, they picked up the pieces."

Esme smiles. "I'm glad you're still human."

"So am I," Gemma replies. "I like being alive."

Rosalie smirks. "It's relaxing to have a heartbeat around the house that isn't Bella's."

"Okay, what gives?" Gemma asks Rosalie, and Rosalie looks surprised. "You love me, but not Bella. Why?"

"Because you have respect for your mortality where she does not," Rosalie replies. "It shouldn't be a choice. No matter how much you love your vampire boyfriend."

"Huh," Gemma hums. "Well, I better tell Mike his buddy's back." She glances at Emmett, who smirks.

Jasper steps forward. "I'll walk you out, Gemma."

"He's missed her," Esme says when the two leave. "Just as must as you have, Emmett."

Emmett nods. "I know."

"Hey," Jasper says and Gemma turns around, he hugs her tightly. "Thank you for what you said to Emmett about me."

"I meant it," Gemma replies as she returns the hug. "It wasn't your fault, Jas." She pulls away. "Never, ever forget that. Okay?"

Jasper smiles down at his favorite human. "Okay. Thank you, Gemma."

Gemma smiles. "I'm going to Seattle with my mom tomorrow; shopping."

Rosalie suddenly appears. "Tell your mom I'm driving."

Gemma smiles and she agrees before going home. She tells her mom about Rosalie and Karen agrees before everyone goes to bed.
