My Best Friend Tadashi - Yamaguchi x Reader

The Secret Base~

"This tree is perfect" you said as you looked up at the pine tree.

The branches were covered in leaves that reached all the way to the ground, perfect for making a secret base.

"It even has a little doorway" Yamaguchi said as he pointed to a little opening in the branches that allowed for just enough space for the two of you to crawl through.

You both carefully pushed the branches aside so that you could look at the tree from the inside.

"There's so much space!" you exclaimed as you realised that the branches from a second tree joined with the branches of the first, making extra space between the two of them.

"We can make this one our secret base!" Yamaguchi said excitedly.

"Yes, we should get some sticks so we can make a floor" you said as you kicked at the dry mud beneath your feet.

"Yeah but we should start with getting rid of all these pine needles" Yamaguchi said as he picked up a handful of them.

"I can run home and get a broom! You stay and keep guard okay?" you said as you scrambled out of the tree.

"Okay!" Yamaguchi said enthusiastically.

By the time you had returned Yamaguchi had already found a few sticks.

"Wow you did a great job Tadashi!" you praised him as you set the broom down.

"Thanks, shall I do the sweeping? Then you can get some more sticks?" he smiled as he picked up the broom.

"Good idea, I'll be back soon" you said as you ran out the tree and began to search the park for sticks.

Yamaguchi began to sweep all the pine needles to one side with the broom as he waited for you to come back.

"Tadashi I got the sticks!" you shouted as you arrived back at your base.

You came through the entrance and dropped your massive pile of sticks on the floor.

"Woah you found so many! Hey are you okay?" he asked worriedly as he saw all the scrapes and scratches on you arms.

"I'm fine" you beamed.

Yamaguchi sighed in relief and crouched down to help you sort the sticks out.

"We can put the big ones in this pile" he said as he pointed to a space in front of him.

"Okay" you nodded as you rummaged through all the sticks you had collected to find the bigger ones.

By the time the two of you were finished you had two piles. One of big sticks and another of all the other sticks.

"Tadashi, how do we make these into a floor?" you asked as you both stared at the sticks.

"Well we stick them together with something" he said.

"Like mud?" you suggested.

"We can try" he replied.

"Okay, we can try it tomorrow" you said as you yawned.

"Yeah I'm tired" Yamaguchi said as he stretched his arms and yawned.

"I think it's time to go home" you said as you stood up, it wasn't dark yet but it wasn't light either.

"Yeah," Yamaguchi replied before smirking, "I bet I can beat you in a race home"

"You wish" you smiled.

"Okay, wanna see, ready, set, go!" he shouted as you both took off running.

"I beat you!" you exclaimed as you both arrived home.

"No you didn't I won!" Yamaguchi protested.

"What happened to you two?" Yamaguchi's mum laughed as she opened the door and saw the two of you.

You were currently both muddy from sitting on the ground all day and you both had a few scrapes and bruises.

"I won didn't I?" you asked as you looked at her.

"I don't know it was very close" she said as she pretended to think.

"No mum I came first!" Yamaguchi exclaimed.

"I think it was a draw" she said finally.

"Huh?" you both shouted as she laughed.

"Why don't both of you come inside and get cleaned up?" she said as you both walked into the house.

You both walked into the kitchen where you washed your hands. Yamaguchi's mother then gave the both of you a cookie before she went upstairs to run the bath.

"I'll beat you next time Tadashi" you said as you took a bite of the cookie.

Yamaguchi shook his head, "No I'm going to beat you"

"We'll have to see who wins tomorrow then" you said.

"Yes, after we make the floor"

The two of you smiled at each other before Yamaguchi's mother called you both upstairs for the bath.

Time skip like 15 years in the future~

"Be careful!" you called out as you watched the two children run off.

"They'll be fine (Y/N)" Yamaguchi reassured you as he placed a hand on your shoulder "we used to do this all the time as kids."

"I guess you're right" you sighed as you smiled at him gratefully.

"Come on let's go for a walk" he said as he held your hand.

You nodded as you let him lead you along. The two of you strolled along in comfortable silence as you watched the birds and took in the scenery.

It was the same park you had both visited many times when you were children, it had been such an adventurous place back then and now it just seemed like a peaceful place where you could go on walks and picnics.

"Hey come look!"

"Huh what is it?" you asked as you frantically looked around for your daughter.

"Come look what we found!" she exclaimed as she grabbed both of your hands.

"Rei, where's Kaede?" you asked as you looked around for Hana's daughter.

"She's already at the base!"

"The base?" Yamaguchi asked curiously.

"Yeah we found a secret base! Come on, hurry up!" she said as she dragged you along with her.

When you arrived at their base you laughed a little.

"Well this looks familiar, doesn't it?" Yamaguchi chuckled as he placed his arm around your shoulder.

"What is it?" Rei asked as she looked at the two of you in confusion.

"Don't worry about it sweetie, it's a lovely base" you replied before looking at Yamaguchi knowingly.

Yamaguchi smiled back at you before turning to talk to the two children.

"You two have fun, okay? we're gonna go for a little walk now"

The children nodded before running happily back inside the base and Yamaguchi turned his attention back to you.

"It's a lot smaller than I remember" he said.

"That's probably because you're a lot bigger now Tadashi" you replied.

"You don't say" he replied jokingly.

You rolled your eyes and grabbed his hand again, swinging it as the two of you continued your walk and began to reminisce on your childhood.
