His lips grazed mine and I didn't hestitate. Seconds later, our lips were interlocked, moving rhythmically against each other, whilst the rain still poured down, drenching us in cold water. My mind flicked back to two days ago, in Kageyama's bathroom, when I kissed him.

He disregarded my question about his health, his mental health, and then told me to get out.
"I don't belong to you. Go home."
His words rang in my head. But he kissed me this time, it didn't make sense.

I pulled away from him, taking a small step backwards. I can't do this right now.
He looked up at me with a conflicted expression on his face, "S- sorry... I shouldn't have." he began, unsteadily.
"Yeah." I merely nodded.

Despite the rain droplets on my glasses clouding my vision, I could still see his eyes, clearer than ever. They were filled with water; tears threatening to overflow.

I knew he wouldn't want me to see him cry, so I just gave him a nod and began to walk back inside, to the warmth.
But he stayed in that exact same spot and just stood there for a moment.

I watched him sit down on the curb and pull his knees towards him, clutching the volleyball in front of him as the rain stormed down onto him.

He looked shattered.

I wanted to hug him and tell him that I was there for him but I couldn't, because I wasn't. I wanted to be, but how realistic would that be?

I heard Sugawara's voice in the distance, it was getting slightly more distinct, meaning he was getting closer. He was talking to someone, another third year.

He smiled as he walked by me, but then met my gaze and looked outside, causing me to immediately avert my eyes. He stared at Kageyama through the glass, and then looked back at me, falling silent.

He just looked at me but didn't say anything and hurriedly made his way outside to Kageyama. The other third year followed, holding an umbrella.

I couldn't make out what they were saying, and I couldn't see as far to lip read. Then I was twirled around by someone before I had the chance to get a proper look. Kikuchi stood before me, smiling.
"Hi Kei."
"Hi."
"Why the long face?" she asked, genuinely concerned, not acting.
"I can't do the fake dating you thing anymore. I think it's made things worse."

"So Kageyama-chan still likes you?"
I looked at her, dumbfounded, "How did you know it was Kageyama? I didn't even tell you."
"People talk, and you're creepily watching him right now." she nodded towards the setter through the glass.

Sighing, I turned away from the glass and faced Kikuchi. "It's complicated. I'm nowhere near good enough for him."
"Well do you want to be with him?" she asked pointedly.
"I do." I confirmed, shifting my weight between each leg back and forth.
"Then do that, if you overcomplicate it then it'll only get worse." she said rather platonically, before walking away in the direction she came from.

She wasn't wrong, but I didn't know what to do. I watched as Kageyama, Sugawara and the other third year came back inside. Sugawara looked deeply worried for the setter who shook it off, almost as if he forgot why he was outside in the first place.

"I'm sorry for making you panic." Kageyama muttered, "I just needed fresh air- I don't mind the rain."
"Kageyama. It's not only raining, it's cold. I wouldn't want to to catch something, then you wouldn't be able to practice." The older boy spoke gently.
Kageyama awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck in realisation, "I wasn't thinking about that... sorry."

"You seem like you have a lot on your mind," Sugawara began, briefly making eye contact with me before continuing, "would you like to talk about it?" he asked the setter.
Kageyama shook his head, "It's fine, we should go to our classes."
"Alright then." Sugawara sighed in defeat.

I shared my next class with Kageyama. History.  Normally, it would be one of my favourite subjects, yet I was looking forward to it less and less.

About 10 minutes until the end of the lesson our professor began to explain a project that we would be presenting.
"Sensei! Is it in groups or pairs?" a boy that I had never talked to asked.
"Groups. Everyone get into groups of four, if you can't find a four then get in a pair." he responded.

Shortly, almost everyone had gotten into groups of four. I didn't really like anyone in this class, but there were some people that I could bare. However, I wouldn't call them my friends.

AN: whilst i was writing this part i have to admit even I myself got a bit confused with who was who, despite the fact that these aren't actual characters, I got a random name generator. So let me give a description of these non canon characters:

Shotaro Suzuki aka "shō/shou" or "zuki". He's brown haired with curtained hair that sort of falls on his face a bit, hazel eyed, 5'10.

Jou Isayama aka "Jousayama" or "Isa". He's dark red haired with a sort of spiky hairstyle, imagine Bokuto's, but his hair in reverse so it spikes downwards instead of upwards. He's 6 foot with brown eyes.

"Tsukishima, pair with me?" the brunette boy across from me asked.
It was Shotaro Suzuki. His bestfriend was in the class, Jou Isayama, I didn't know why he didn't bother asking him. But still, I nodded. He was intelligent and wouldn't rely on me to do all of the work like most people did.

"Sit down in your groups of four and if you're a pair stay standing." my sensei instructed as he walked around the room, forming groups of four from random pairs.

"Isa!" Suzuki shouted to his friend across the room, as if he only just saw him.

"Shō! Join our pair!" the spiky haired boy waved, beckoning us loudly. Without notice, the brunette boy began to drag me by the wrist the to other side of the room to join his friend's pair.

His friend was paired with Kageyama. Suzuki had a strong grip on my arm, so resisting wasn't even an option. "Sensei, we're a four!" Isayama exclaimed to our teacher. Despite looking like he belonged in an intense punk rock band, he acted like a child.

The redhead and brunette instantly began talking about how to divide roles for the project excitedly. They both acted like children. Kageyama didn't make eye contact with me once, I could tell that he was embarrassed, so I didn't say anything to him.

"Oya, we should all come to my house after school to work on the project for the first time nay?" Suzuki asked.
"Yeahh, then we can go to mine tomorrow night since my parents aren't home as well." Isayama grinned.
"Cool, everyone be at mine by 5." the brunette confirmed.
"Alright." I said at the same time as Kageyama. We looked at each other and he gave me an awkward smile before the bell started to ring.

It was the end of the day and then I remembered, practice.
