I didn't know what to say to Kageyama as I carried him back to his house. I kept forming sentences in my mind and finally found a suitable string of words to say to him now that he was calmer, only to see him asleep.

I fiddled in his pocket, grabbing his keys and opened the door. This all felt too familiar.

Laying him upon his bed, I felt obligated to stay. What type of person would I be if I left?
I took off my hoodie and sat on the edge of Kageyama's large bed, pulling out my phone.

I should probably tell my parents where I am...

(time skip, 5:49am)

I woke up next to Kageyama to see him curled up in a ball, mumbling to himself whilst shaking. Tears were trailing down his cheeks and I instantly cupped his face.

"Hey, it's okay. You're dreaming. It's just a dream." I spoke softly.
He shot up, panting as he wiped his eyes, "Sorry."

"You don't need to apologise."
"Well I woke you up... I have shitty dreams when I'm stoned." he chuckled, trying to make jokes of the situation.

I frowned, "You shouldn't do drugs like that. What about volleyball? And your health?"
"I'm alive, right? And I still play fine so stop overreacting. Go back to sleep." he dismissed, laying back down.

I simply just sighed, mumbling a "you're hardly alive" to myself before putting my head back down on Kageyama's pillow.

"What?" he asked.

"Nothing."
"Tell me what you just said." he spoke, frowning as he turned on his side to face me.

"You can't talk about being alive like that when you were telling me mere hours ago about wanting to kill yourself okay. Imagine if I wasn't there. What could've happened King?" I asked, looking at the ceiling.

"I... I am fine without you. I'm not your responsibility." he replied defensively.
"You clearly aren't fine, being here all alone isn't good for you."
"And you are?"

"What?" I asked, finally turning on my side to face him, "I'm trying to help you, to protect you."

"You say you do all of this... stuff to 'protect' me. You using me was protecting me? You playing around with me whilst having a girlfriend was protecting me? You lying to me was protecting me too right? What even are we?" he spoke.
"King-"
"What are you protecting me from huh? Myself?" he continued, with a singular tear rolling down his cheek.

"Kikuchi wasn't actually my girlfriend." I said.
"What?"
"She was helping me out, well meant to be... by pretending to be my girlfriend. It wasn't real. I didn't actually have feelings for her." I confessed.
Kageyama just scoffed, "Typical. You lied to me about that too, why all the lies?"

I didn't know how to respond to that.
Why all the lies Tsukishima?

"You didn't need to stay you know, I'm fine without you. I'm not your responsibility nor your boyfriend. I don't need you." the setter spoke sharply, turning around yet again, but this time so that I could only see his back and no longer see his face.

He doesn't need me...

I got up silently and grabbed my jacket, eyes beginning to sting.
-
Tsukishima walked out of Kageyama's room and down the stairs before putting on his shoes then leaving.

As soon as Kageyama heard Tsukishima close the front door, the setter let out a pained scream that echoed throughout the walls of his house whilst he clutched his knees, rocking back and forth in his bed alone as he cried.

Tsukishima walked down the dark street sluggishly and reached for his headphones, only to find that he had left them at Kageyama's place.

He didn't plan on turning back so he continued walking home, accompanied by nothing but the sound of the wind howling as the sun rose.

It was just past 6am and the blonde had only gotten slightly over two hours of sleep. As soon as he arrived home he went back to bed, trying to grasp an extra hour of sleep before having to awaken yet again for school.

An hour had passed and it was time for him to get ready for school. Yawning, Tsukishima got ready slowly and went downstairs for his breakfast before leaving his house.
-
I reached for my headphones, to only remember yet again, that the King had them.
Sighing, I shoved my hands in my pockets and continued the walk silently before seeing Yamaguchi run up the road.

"Good morning Tsukki!" he beamed.
"What's so good about this morning?" I asked nonchalantly.
He just laughed and pushed my arm, "Stop being so moody! Today will be a good day! I can feel it." he smiled.

We continued the rest of the walk to school with Yamaguchi chattering away about things I wasn't paying attention to. He was awfully happy today but I couldn't get my mind off of Kageyama.

What did he mean by "nor am I your boyfriend", did he want to be my boyfriend? Do I ask him? But then he said he didn't need me anymore. Someone wouldn't want to date someone if they didn't need them right?

"Tsukki! Are you even listening?" the freckled boy next to me spoke in an annoyed tone.
"Huh? Yeah sure."

"Tsukki..." he pouted.
"Fine I wasn't listening. What were you saying?"

He stopped walking and looked at me, as if deciding whether it was worth repeating all again for me.
"I have a crush..." he spoke.
"On who?" I asked interestedly.
"I can't tell you that... they're a second year though." he smiled.
"Oh really, do I know them?" I asked, beginning to think about Kikuchi and the whole Kageyama thing yet again.

"Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know everyone that you know, vice-versa." he shrugged.

That was quite true despite the fact that Yamaguchi had followed me everywhere since we first made eye contact.
I was convinced that he had a crush on me, but clearly that wasn't the case.

"Is it a girl?" I asked instinctively. Yamaguchi knew that I wasn't straight but we had never really talked about his sexuality.
"Duh, she uses the pronouns she/they though. So use them interchangeably please!"
"Interesting."

The freckled boy just smiled and nodded as he pulled out his phone, probably to text this crush of his.
I wondered if they went to this school, and if not, how she and Yamaguchi knew each other, if they did anyway.

"Yamaguchi! Tsukki!" A voice yelled from somewhere ahead of us. It was Hinata, he was speeding on his bike despite the bike rack being not too far from him. He clearly wasn't paying attention to the fact that this probably wouldn't end well.

"Hinata! Watch out!" Yamaguchi yelled, making me cringe at how loud he was.

The red-haired boys eyes widened upon seeing the bike rack as he slammed on the breaks of his bike, losing balance and shooting off like a catapult.

And then he died.

The end.
