“Octavian!” masiglang sigaw ko noong nakita ko siyang pagala-gala sa hallway near our homeroom.
He gave me a blank look. “Ba’t kailangang nakasigaw ka?”
“I’m so not nakasigaw. I’m just glad to see you!”
“Hindi ako masayang masilayan ang pagmumukha mo nang ganito ka-aga,” he muttered.
“How mean! Pretty naman ako, ah? You don’t find me pretty?”
“No.”
“OMG, that’s so, so harsh, Octavian! And I thought tight and will never sink ang friendship natin,” I wailed.
“Ingay,” he said irritably. Aalis na dapat siya when I grabbed his arm.
“Octavian!” I said excitedly.
“Ano na naman?”
“Someone’s got a crush on me!”
He gave me another blank look. “Huh?”
“You know the guwapong guy I made kuwento to you? About the ball and the tissue paper? You know, when I pooped and—”
“What about him?”
“He so likes me!”
“Excuse me?”
“Naman, Octavian! Are you so not familiar with boys’ actions? I mean, you’re a boy, right? You’re not kalahi nina Cadmus, Bubbles, Clover—”
“Anong pinagsasabi mo?”
“He likes me!”
“Sinabi niya ba sa’yong gusto ka niya?”
“Nope! Pero, Octavian, it’s so obvious!”
“What’s obvious?” he asked, sighing.
I told him about my encounter with Cyber Sandejas and how he always makes sungit to me. After I finished, Octavian looked at me as if I’m the reincarnation of Sisa.
“What? What?” I asked.
“Based on your story, Celeste, he doesn’t like you. He, in fact, seems to find you weird and unlucky,” he said, smirking.
“What!? That can’t be, Octavian! I mean, I’m so not makakapayag na mali my analysis! I mean, he’s just nasa-shy! He likes me!” I wailed.
“He doesn’t,” Octavian snapped. “You’re deluding yourself. Why? Do you like him?”
Kumurap ako. “OMG, do I like him?”
“Ba’t ako ang tinatanong mo? Timang ka talaga. Diyan ka na nga.”
“Octavian!”
“Just shut up, Celeste, and behave,” he snapped.
Ngumuso ako at hinayaan siyang umalis. Ang mean niya talaga! And he’s supposed to be my friend! I mean, he’s not just my friend. He’s one of my closest friends! Okay, fine, assumera lang ako. So what? What’s wrong with being FC? Sahig nga close ko, si Octavian pa kaya?
And OMG, Cyber Sandejas doesn’t like me pala? Akala ko crush niya ako kasi nasa-shy siya sa akin. But it’s okay! I mean, I’m so maganda naman, right? Kahit ‘di niya ako crush, maganda pa rin ako, right? Right.
I was about to enter my homeroom when Octavian suddenly went out from his homeroom. “Celeste,” he called.
“Yes? You miss me sagad na?” I asked cheerfully.
