“I don’t need a lecture, especially from someone who can’t move on their own,” Vex growled, snapping their head to Caesar.

“Will you two knock it off already?” Daniel barked, glaring at the two of them, who’d been at each other’s throats since we got to Speedwagon’s foundation. The police were called, and since the window was broken, they put it as aggravated assault and breaking and entering and sent me away from my apartment. My spot had already been filled at the hospital, giving me time to think on my own.

“Shut up, you’re all starting to give me a headache,” I grumbled, leaning over the table. My eyes scanned over the papers, all of which Speedwagon had gathered for us. All of it was information on Aaron; his whereabouts, testimony against him, etc.

“Since when did you get so bitchy?” Joseph asked, raising his eyebrows at me.

“Since people starting keeping things, that I think are pretty important, from me,” I snapped. “I’m getting tired of this.”

“We know,” Daniel sighed. “You said it before.”

“Then get off your ass and help me!” I yelled before I could stop myself. I was so aggravated, I was letting my anger seep through into my voice. “If there were other people other than Speedwagon and I, maybe it would go faster, and you’d quit hearing me bitch at you!”

“Maybe if you would let us, we would!” Daniel yelled back, standing up. “You get pissed every time we say something!”

“Cause you say the stupidest shit! Do you honestly think any of your plans would work?!” Daniel shoved me back.

“If you don’t like them, stop asking!” He shouted. I pushed him back, making his back hit the wall.

“Oi!” Vex grabbed my shoulder and yanked me back. “Knock it off, both of you! You’re acting like a bunch of wankers!”

“Vex’s right,” Speedwagon said. “Yelling isn’t helping anything.”

“Fuck you,” Daniel spat. “You can do this on your own.”

“Good! I never asked for your fucking help anyways!” I snapped. Daniel scoffed and slung the door open.

“Daniel! Get back here!” Vex yelled.

“Siblings are scary,” Joseph mumbled under his breath. I turned my head and glared at him.

“Shut the hell up,”

“S-sorry,”

“You need to cool down,” Vex snarled, shoving me to the door. “I’m not dealing with two hot-headed New Yorkers. If you want to continue searching for your crazy-ass ex, then come back when you’re not acting like a bitch.”

“Fuck-”

Vex grabbed me by my throat and slammed me against the wall, making everyone jump up in surprise. I grabbed their wrist tightly, glaring at them harshly. “Watch your mouth with me, priss. I’m not like these soft-ass men who will let you talk like that. I will put you back into your place. Remember who you’re dealing with. I’m the only one who can help you now. Your little boy-toy and partner are both down for the count, and you’ve pissed off the only other person capable of doing anything. So I suggest you put your hand down, bitch. Because trust me, Hamon will only slow me down. I’ll kill you before you get the chance, and let Holt do whatever the fuck he wants.”

I felt the Hamon sparking at my fingertips die out. Vex removed their hand and stepped back, jerking their head to the door. I slipped from the room without another word.

Leaning against the wall, I closed my eyes and let the cool breeze hit my face. I sighed heavily through my nose, letting myself slide to the ground. I looked out in the distance, watching the swirling shades of blue through mid-day. I hoped Daniel had just gone to his room or something in the compound and didn’t try to go out in the sun. I brought my knees into my chest.

“It wasn’t your fault, you know,” I looked over to the figure walking towards me. Speedwagon pointed to the empty space beside me. “Can I sit?”

“Sure,” I mumbled, watching him settle beside me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to blow up back there.”

“It’s alright,” He said, resting his head on the wall. “You had every right to blow up. I can only imagine how you feel. Your brother was turned into a vampire, your family and friends are injured, and there’s nothing you can do. I understand that frustration.”

“Has something like this ever happened to you?” I asked quietly.

“Not exactly. It’s why I can’t completely sympathize with you,” He replied. “The only person who could really do that is Vex. Of course, they’ll probably kill me for saying this, but...the two of you aren’t so different. It’s why they’re acting so harshly towards you and Daniel. They’re trying to prevent you from falling in the same loop they did.”

“I just...I don’t know what to do,” I mumbled, feeling tears prick the corners of my eyes. I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. “I’m scared that everything is going to go wrong, and that I’m going to lose them.”

“You won’t,” Speedwagon hummed, making me turn my head to look at him, seeing the comforting smile that was on his face. “Everyone has their rough moments, Y/n. Don’t let this drag you down. An old friend of mine thought the same thing, but he succeeded in the end. It’ll be fine. I believe that you will win this.”

I smiled softly, wiping the tears from my cheeks. I don’t know why, but I believed him. Maybe it was because Speedwagon was just the type of person that when he said so, it would happen. Maybe it was because deep down, I knew that it was going to okay.

“T-thanks,” I sniffled. Speedwagon stood up and offered his hand to me.

“Come on, your father should be arriving soon.”

“My father?” I asked in surprise. “What?”

“Oh. They must have not told you that either,” He mumbled. “Caesar sent a message to have your father kept here until all of this is over. Nothing has happened to him so far, but we don’t want to take any risks.”

“I understand,” I nodded. “Does he know about Daniel?”

Speedwagon held the door open for me. “Yes. The agents told him everything. He didn’t seem very...happy.”

“Did you expect him to?” I asked, raking a hand through my hair.

“OI! There you two are!” Speedwagon and I stopped, turning around to see Vex coming down the hall.

“What’s wrong?” Speedwagon asked.

“Bad news,” They said. “The car transporting your old man was ambushed. They’re holding them off for now, but they’re going to need help.”

“Take what you need,” Speedwagon said.

“Hey, priss-bitch, are you done throwing your tantrum now? ‘Cause I could use you out there,” Vex asked.

“But it’s daylight, you can’t go outside,” I said, glancing out the window before back at them.

“No shit sherlock. You get your detective skills from a kid’s book?” They spat sarcastically.

“You’re going by yourself.”
