“Y/n! Get back here!”

I could feel every muscle in my body dragging me towards the door. I sprinted down the hall, my feet carrying me even though I felt like I was going to collapse at any moment. I was so afraid; I’d never been so scared before. I burst open the door, turning and slamming it as hard as I could. My hands shook violently as I fumbled to slide the golden chain into place before twisting the lock on the handle and deadbolting it shut.

I stumbled until my back made contact with the wall, listening to the pounding on the door. I reached up, blindly reaching for the phone on the stand. I heard the operator tone as I knocked the device to the floor. I reached for the phone and pressed it to my ear, listening to the voice on the other line, before whispering my father’s name.

“You bitch! I’m going to fucking kill you!”

I ducked around the corner, slinking between two water tanks. My eyes had already adjusted to the darkness, and it was easy to navigate around the halls to the hiding places. I knew them like the back of my hand.

Aaron ran straight past me, making me roll my eyes. For a narcissist vampire who thought of himself as this genius, he was pretty fucking stupid if he couldn’t smell me, especially since the cut I touched under my eye reopened.

I left as soon as his figure disappeared, jogging towards the stairs. I hadn’t even reached the top stair before I heard someone yell my name. Spinning around, I saw Joseph running down the hall.

“Jojo? What are you-”

“No time to chat! We gotta run!” He exclaimed, grabbing my wrist and dragging me after him. I yelped out of surprise, quickly regaining my footing before falling into pace with him.

“What the hell did you do this time?!” I asked, glancing behind us to see a horde of zombie-like creatures running after us.

“I pissed them off!”

“Obviously!” I snapped, grabbing his shirt as I yanked him around a corner. “I swear to God, Joseph. You’re always running.”

“It’s not my fault!” He whined.

“Give me the oil,” I huffed, holding my hand out. When he placed the vial inside of my palm, I turned around the corner splashing it out onto the group of creatures. Hamon shot from my hand and flashed through the hall, illuminating it with a golden hue of light before vanishing.

“I never doubted you, Y/n!” Joseph exclaimed as we dashed down the hall once more.

“Yeah right, you bastard!” I laughed, tossing the empty vial behind us. “Now, we need to meet back up with the others.”

“Right! The dynamic duo is on their way!” He said, making our laughter fill the halls.

When we arrived on the seventh floor, the highest floor of the building, the door to 7B, the apartment we agreed on, was open. Immediately, this raised alarms for both Joseph and me. We exchanged a glance, the playful mood we had a few minutes ago replaced by the seriousness of the situation. Joseph, stepped around me, reaching towards his waistband before extending something back to me.

I soon realized it was a knife, and held it at my side. Joseph pushed the door open the rest of the way and called out Caesar’s name, then Vex, and then Daniel. When we received no reply, I reached out and grabbed Joseph’s sleeve. He jerked his head to the bedroom where we heard rustling. Sneaking behind him, Joseph pushed the door open.

Caesar was in a chair centered in the empty room. His arms were bound behind him, a cloth shoved in his mouth. He had a gash on his forehead, causing blood to run down the side of his head. I exclaimed his name and rushed towards him. I furrowed my brows as Caesar frantically began to shake his head.

“Y/n-!” Joseph’s cry was cut out when he was slammed back against the wall. I felt something behind me and quickly ducked down, rolling to the side to avoid the hand that swiped towards me. I jumped to my feet, flicking the switchblade open, feeling the oil dribble onto my knuckles. I ducked under the punch it swung at me, before grabbing the creature by the side of its head and spun it around. I slashed the blade across its neck, making sure to use Hamon as I cut open its jugular.

“Stupid fucking thing,” Joseph growled, kicking its body away as it began to turn to ash.

“Give me some light, Jojo,” I said, circling around Caesar.

“Sure thing,” The brunette replied, raising his palm as the room lit up. I sliced the ropes and took the gag from Caesar’s mouth.

“Are you okay?” I asked him, looking at the cut on his head. He winced and moved my hand away.

“Yeah. I tried to warn you that it was a trap, but it was too late,” He said, standing up. “What about you two? Are you alright?”

“We’re fine,” I said. “But I don’t think everything is right.”

“What do you mean?” Joseph asked.

“Aaron ran right past me,” I said. “He knew I was there. What’s he after?”

“Us,”

I screamed out of surprise, the sudden voice behind me startling me as I scrambled towards Caesar, pressing myself against his chest. I whipped my head around to see Vex and Daniel standing in the doorway, Vex’s hand raised in the air with a surprised look on their face. Daniel was covering his mouth to try and hide his laughter.

“What the fuck?!” I yelled, my face heating up. “You can’t just sneak up on people like that!”

“Sorry, thought you heard us coming down the hall,” Vex said, lowering their hand. “We ran into some trouble, so I’m assuming you did as well.”

“Yeah. Aaron showed up out of nowhere and hit me over the head before tying me up. He was setting a trap,” Caesar said, audibly wincing as I wiped the blood away with my sleeve.

“We, obviously, fell for it,” Joseph said.

“No, you didn’t,” Daniel said, hurriedly moving Vex to the side. “Y/n, watch out!”

“Huh?”

I turned around to see a figure looming over me. I knew I wasn’t going to have time to react, there was no way in hell I could! But, before anything could happen, a sudden gust of wind blew in front of me, making me turn my head away.

Vex stood in front of me, their hands around either of Aaron’s fists. I could feel the anger radiating from them and stepped back with a gasp, my eyes widening. Vex...holy shit, Vex was even faster than any of us thought.

Aaron clicked his tongue in annoyance as Caesar grabbed me and pulled me back against him, holding me against him protectively. With hazel eyes narrowed, Aaron slid back as Vex shoved him away, straightening up with a glare.

“Tch. Should have known you’d come to piss me off, even more, Vex,” He snapped.

“You really should have,” They replied. “It’s literally in my name. I have a habit of pissing people off, it just kind of stuck.”

“I’m getting really sick of seeing you everywhere,” He hissed, rolling his shoulders around.

“Is that so? I’ll do you a favor and take your eyes out. Then you can’t see shit,” They said. “Daniel, get them outside.”

“Vex, what about you?” I asked, my eyebrows lacing with worry. However, it soon faded.

Vex looked over at me, their eyes glowing a bright red from beneath their hood. The scar on their lip twitched as they grinned widely, insanity sparking in the bright crimson orbs.

“I’m going to tear this motherfucker to shreds.”
