RIKKI

February 8, 2014 2:36 a.m.

"I'm going to find you, and I'll kill you," said Jeff.

"No!" I screamed. "Leave me alone!"

"Fine, I'll kill that pretty little boyfriend of yours," said Jeff with an evil smile. "Oh, Carlos!"

"I've got him, Jeff," said Carlos as he dragged Kade into the room my his neck.

"Okay, rich girl, take your pick. Is it going to be you, or him?" asked Jeff as he pulled out his gun.

"No!" I screamed as I fell to my knees.

"Choose now!" yelled Jeff.

"No!" I screamed again.

"Fine, if you won't choose I'll kill him!" yelled Jeff as he walked over to Kade and put the gun on his temple.

"Rikki," Kade moaned.

"Kade!" I screamed. "I choose me! Leave him alone!"

"It's too late for that, sweetheart," smiled Jeff as he pulled the trigger.

"No!" I screamed as I woke up. Good, it was only a dream, I thought to myself. If it was only a dream, then why am I crying and why do I still feel really, really scared?

I couldn't take this. I needed someone. Not my family, someone who understood what I went through. Not Adam, either. I needed Kade. I remembered what he said, 'I'll always be there for you, no matter what time of day,' so I turned on my light, took out my phone, and dialed his number. He picked up on the second ring.

"Rikki, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" Kade asked quickly.

"Kade, I had a really bad dream, and you were in it," I whispered.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Jeff had a gun, and he told me to choose which one of us he should kill. I chose me, but he said it was too late and he-" my voice cut off and I started crying again.

"Shh, Rikki, don't cry. I'll be over in five minutes," murmured Kade, and then he hung up. Five minutes later, I heard taps on my window. It was Kade throwing rocks.

"Kade, how did you know this was my room?" I asked.

"Well, it was the only room that had a light on, so I took a lucky guess," lauged Kade. "How am I supposed to get up there?"

"Um, grab the gardener's ladder over there," I said, pointing to the left. Kade grabbed the ladder and was in my room in two minutes flat. As soon as he got into my room, he pulled me into a hug.

"It's okay," he murmured in my ear. "I'm here now."

"Where'd you park your car?" I asked.

"I parked it down a few blocks. I'll go get it in the morning and act like I'm picking you up."

"Wait, you'll stay with me?" I asked.

Kade pointed to the duffle bag he had brought into my room. "What do you think that's for? Of course I'll stay with you, that is, unless you don't want me to."

"No, I want you to stay with me," I said.

"Will your parents care?" he asked.

"They won't know if you don't want them to. Their room is in on the first floor, along with Adam's, and they never come up here unless I'm sick or something," I said.

"Okay, good. I don't want your parents getting mad at me. They already hate me, I'm sure," said Kade.

"No, they don't hate you, Kade. They absolutely love you. They're really thankful that you kept Adam and me safe when we were still, you know, trapped."

"I'm glad. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, so it's probably a good thing they like me," said Kade as he smiled and wrapped me into another hug. He kissed me and then said, "We should probably be getting to sleep. We'll want to be well-rested for tomorrow."

"Yeah," I replied. "I want to be able to squeeze a lot of information out of that weasel."

"Me too," said Kade as he started to slide his shirt off.

"What are you doing?" I asked him.

"I can't sleep in a shirt and shorts. I have to sleep in my boxers or I get too hot," he explained. "Are you okay with that, because if you're not I can be hot for one night."

"Kade, you're always hot. Yeah, I'm okay with that," I joked as I climbed into my queen-sized bed.

"Good," he replied as he climbed into bed with me. Kade slid in behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Your chest is really warm," I commented as we intertwined our legs.

"I know, why do you think I can't sleep with a shirt on?" he asked.

"I thought you were making that up," I admitted.

"Would I ever do that?" he asked.

"I think you would," I said as I turned to face him. I pulled his head towards me so I could kiss him. After we pulled back, I snuggled up into his chest, his arms still around me. "Good night, Kade," I said.

"Good night, Rikki," he replied before kissing my head. Then we both fell asleep, holding each other tightly.
