RIKKI

January 1, 2014 2:50 a.m.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP!" screamed my alarm.

"Uhh," I groaned in protest. It was too early in the morning for this. Then I remembered; today was the day we were going to escape.

"Kade, wake up!" I yelled.

"Shh, Rikki, we don't want Jeff and Carlos to wake up," Kade whispered.

"Oops, sorry," I said sheepishly. "Let's wake Kelsi and Adam up."

"We're already awake," mumbled Adam.

"Good, now let's go. Kade, try to open the door," I said as I grabbed my phone and charger. "Adam, grab the keys and give them to Kade. Kelsi, grab the sheet and let's get out of here."

Kade grabbed the keys to the Kia from Adam and went up to the old wooden door and pushed. It opened easily. We left the bunkhouse for hopefully the last time ever.

"Guys, be quick but quiet. We don't want to get caught by these guys or the dog," I said. Then all four of us began to run quickly but quietly across the dusty dirt ground. Halfway across the property, we realized that the dog was no longer guarding the door. We could've maybe escaped weeks earlier, but that wasn't important at the moment. We just had to get out as quickly as we could. When we reached the front of the house, we saw the Stingray, but no Kia.

"Guys, where's the Kia?" asked Kelsi.

"I don't know, but there's no way Jeff could've moved it since we cleaned the house. We've had the keys the whole time," said Kade.

"Wait a minute!" exclaimed Adam. "I remember now. The Kia was parked behind the house the day that we cleaned, remember?"

"Oh yeah, that's right!" I said, suddenly remembering. None of us knew why Jeff had moved the Kia behind the house, but that's where it was currently parked. "C'mon, guys, to the back of the house!" We were all running behind the house when suddenly everything went wrong.

We got to the back of the house, and we saw the Kia. That was a good sign. I saw that a light in the window in the back of the house was on. Bad sign. I saw that the lighted room was the living room and the T.V. was on. Another bad sign. I saw that Jeff and Carlos were both sitting in the living room. Worse sign. Jeff and Carlos saw us trying to get into the Kia Soul. Worst sign of all.

"Hey, they're trying to get away!" Carlos screamed so loudly that we could hear him outside.

"That's where my keys went!" growled Jeff.

"Get in guys!" I screamed. Kelsi and I both made it into the right side of the car just fine, but what happened next was indescribable.

Kade didn't make it into the car quick enough. Jeff ran up to the window, pulled out a gun, and shot Kade through the window. "Aaaagggghhh!" Kade cried in pain.

"Kade!" I screamed. Kade fell to the ground while he cried in agony. The bullet had hit him in the shoulder, and he was bleeding heavily. I was too shocked to do anything, but thank God Adam hadn't gotten into the car yet. I have no idea how my little ten-year-old brother did it, but he grabbed Kade off of the ground and threw him into the backseat of the Kia. Adam jumped into the Kia after Kade and slammed the door.

"Rikki, you've gotta drive," Adam said calmly as he tossed me the keys from Kade's hand. "Go, now! They're gonna be out here any second because they left the room after Jeff shot Kade. Go!"

I jumped into the driver's seat of the Kia, put the keys into the ignition, and started the car. I had never driven a car before, and I had no idea what to do next. "I don't know how to drive!" I cried.
