Sam and I walked to the jets hand in hand. I didn't want to go without him but I didn't have much of a choice. It was my first mission without him and something felt off. I hugged him goodbye.
"Stay safe" he said holding me
"You too" I replied
I stepped on the the jet and everyone was suited up. Steve stood at the front of the jet.
"Today our objective is to be in and out. We don't want a long battle. We want to reason with him, or get rid of him, no in between. We work as a team, look out for each other, and we will win together." Steve spoke in his serious leader voice
I sat next to Bucky and put my seat latch on.
"Always knows what to say," I said "where does he come up with this stuff?"
Bucky smiled and put his hand on my thigh, Loki looked at his hand and looked away.
"I like your suit" Bucky began to say quietly "it's very-"
"Flattering?" I cut him off
"I was going to say tight, but that works too" he grinned.
I put my head on his shoulder bracing myself for the 7 hour ride. 3 hours in I noticed Loki looking at me with a devilish smirk. Out of pure curiosity I decided to read his mind, he was starting to scare me. 7 simple words ran through his head into mine 'you will be mine soon enough'. I was over it. I didn't want him starting trouble or making anyone uncomfortable.
"So are you guys going back to Asgard after the mission?" I asked the two gods
"I plan to, yes." Thor responded
"Loki?"
"Yes, I will be back in Asgard soon." Loki answered
I smiled relieved and Bucky gently squeeze my leg.
"Must be nice there, from what I read online the kingdom is gold and beautiful." I started to make casual conversation to pass time.
"Ah yes," Thor started again "there is no place more beautiful then Asgard."
"You would like it there" Loki added
I avoided Loki's comment by simply nodding
"Have you ever been to Coney Island doll?" Bucky asked me
"No I haven't"
"Now that's a place you'd like, we will have to go."
"Be careful y/n" Steve added "Buck won't tell ya but the Cyclone will leave you nauseous."
"Thanks for the warning" I smiled
I began to play with Bucky's fingers, rubbing up and down each one lovingly. I was excited for our future, whatever that meant. Whether it meant completing missions our whole lives or traveling the world, I didn't care as long as we were together.
We started getting closer to the location, everyone got up and started loading guns, shields and whatever other weapons we had. We landed in a huge grassy field outside of London, England. Baldr was nowhere to be seen but there was the mark of the bifrost, where the gods land when they come here. It was burnt in the ground but still sort of glowing.
"Oh no," Thor started "this- this could be the source of the energy."
"What, this symbol?" Steve asked
"The bifrost leaves behind a great amount of energy when touching Midgard. It's power is unlike anything here."
"Great, so now what? He's just missing?" I asked looking at Thor
Thor didn't speak, he just raised an eyebrow.
"What? What's wrong?"
Thor met his eyes with mine
"We would have caught more energy if Baldr was here, his energy would be far greater than the bifrost." Thor said trying to put the pieces together
"Meaning?"
"He was never here."
We all looked at each other in confusion
"Well that may not be true brother," Loki started "perhaps he's somewhere in this field, we should split up and look."
Something felt off when Loki spoke, I couldn't put my finger on it but it gave me a bad feeling. I exchanged a concerned look at Bucky.
"Ok, split up, you see anything you tell us." Steve said.
"Steve-" I started
"Come on. We're going this way" Loki cut me off
I decided to be brave, not to show fear or weakness. I grabbed Bucky's hand dragging him with me. Loki led us to the mark of the bifrost so that we were standing on it.
"You see these markings?" Loki asked
"What about them? Bucky was blunt
"Each one has a certain design," Loki looked around to make sure no one was looking. I knew it was a red flag right away. I read his mind as quickly as I could. It read 'time to take action'.
"BUCK-"
Before I could finish my sentence Loki knocked Bucky to the ground and grabbed me. I tried to squirm out of his grip but he had me in a difficult position. Thor began to run to us.
"TAKE US BACK!" Loki shouted looking up
"BUCKY!" I yelled getting lifted up into the sky
