We were escaping. Or I hoped. Someone was chasing us. I knew I'd have to fight the pay and use my muscles and bones.
"Do you have a weapon?" I asked In the strongest voice I could find.
"Yeah," John replied showing a gun. We were running past a hall. I was burning, breaking, hurting, numbing, hurting. I wondered how long the place was. It seemed like we'd been running for five hours but I knew it had only been five minutes. I hated not getting to do anything. I felt helpless. After all, this was happening because of me. I needed to do something. And the person following is just seemed to be getting faster instead of slower.
"Stop," I commanded. Both people carrying us stopped. I unhooked my hands from John and let my feet unlatch then jumped off. Ow. That hurts. No, I would fight through it. I looked at Andrew and saw that he looked just as determined as I felt. And cute. No, I shook my head. Not the right time. I felt my cheeks get red though. John held his gun out. I extended my hand anticipating it to hurt and, hey! Look at that it did. Ugh. When would the pain go away? I took the gun from him and ran back from where we came. Wow, I could see everything. Usually, when I go to the doctor, they'd say my vision was fine but now it seemed beyond perfect. There was a sign down the hall and I could read it perfectly. It said, 'Lock all cells when returning prisoners.' I was almost there. I looked back for a second and saw Andrew running after me. He was taking huge strides but didn't seem to be going much faster than me yet he caught up to me. "Sky," He said.
"Yeah?" I asked. I turned my head to see him. His face had a mixture of worry, fear, and hope on it.
"Don't go hack. We can escape. You might get hurt.... again," He said. Woah! He was really worried. For me. I smiled. Maybe blushed.
"Sorry. I have to help. It's my mess," I said. We'd slowed our pace down.
"Fine. I'm coming."
"What?!" I didn't want him to come. What if he got hurt? I didn't even know how I'd deal with him being hurt.
"I'm coming, and have been. Let's go." I sighed. Then we sped up and I sight of the fighting. We had slightly more people but they looked stronger and have more weapons. I could feel my power coming back but I was hurting so much I wasn't sure how much I'd be able to use it. I held the gun in front of me gripping it tightly right in front of someone. Bang! I let go of the trigger. I saw a bullet leave the gun and go into the man's chest. He bent over and clutched his chest. He didn't expect that! Yes-oh.. wait. I just shot someone. Oof. I would rather have not but I didn't feel sorry for him. I think that was the guy who kept bringing me from my cell and into those rooms. Ah! I fell to the ground. Someone pushed me. I got back on my feet as quickly as possible. Andrew was holding two guns now. He must have seen who pushed me because he came over to the person and tackled them to the floor.
"Thanks," I said. Andrew had somehow knocked out the person. I held out my hand. He grabbed it, I felt my heart flip, and he hopped up.
"You're welcome." He went back to fighting. I was about to but someone beat me and shot a gun. At me. Ouch. It hit my shoulder. Guess no more moving my left should for a little. I ran at them holding the gun tightly in my right hand. He shot another bullet. This time I avoided it. It hit someone behind me. Good, one of their guards. I could tell the difference because they were wasting silver while everyone else, except me and Andrew, were wearing black suits. I was curious. Would my power work? I was still hurting a lot but... maybe It would work.? I concentrated on making my finger glow, set it on fire. Yes! There was fire coming from the tip of my pointer finger. Wow, It looked brighter, hotter. I imagined it spreading onto the rest of my hand. Okay... It's working. It was red-orange flames that lit up the whole room. Somehow it didn't hurt my eyes to look at it. I showed the flames to the guy and he backed up. A lot. I smiled. I made a ball above my hand out of the fire. Would I throw it at him? Could I? It would probably hurt. I took one last look and three the ball. It hit him. I was sure of that but I didn't stay to see. We had finished off most of the guards. Calista's guards were taking care of the rest. I realized, the people who kidnapped us had taken our gear we'd gotten from our parents. Oh, whatever. I think we wouldn't need them. I put out my fire and headed towards Andrew. Woah! I stopped. I hadn't notice, maybe because I was fighting, but my body was hurting like crazy. I had a bullet in my left shoulder, I was already in a lot of pain from the liquid, I had bruises all over my body, they were starting to heal, and I got some scratches from fighting. I think Andrew was hurting too because he was still as a rock, besides his hands. They were clenching and unclenching. I heard some footsteps coming down the hall. I immediately went back on guard and held up my gun ready to shoot. The footsteps seemed different from the ones I kept hearing. They were light.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Oh! Just me, Calista, and some of my guards," She answered. I relaxed immediately and lowered the gun.
"Calista!" I said when she came into view. Andrew turned so he could see her.
"Oh. Y'all are pretty banged up. We'll have to find a very safe spot. Oh!" She walked over to us. She looked back and forth between both of our necks.
"What?" We asked. I put my hand on my neck. There was a small lump.
"Oh...," I said. The tracker. They'd have to take it out.
"Um.. how? How are you going to take it out?" Andrew asked.
"You're not going to like it. At all. We have to cut it out. It's not too deep so maybe.., well, better just do it," She said. Someone, two people, walked up to me and Andrew holding a small dagger. He pressed the dagger against my skin. Oh! Ow! My neck was bleeding. He put his dagger back and used his hands to take it out. Must not have been very far back. It was a small computer chip. He dropped it and crushed it with the ball of his foot. He took out a bandaid and put it on my neck.
"We'll make sure your neck can heal properly when we get somewhere safe," The guy who took out the tracker said. I smiled and said, "Ok, Thanks." He seemed like a nice guard. I hoped I could see him again.
"You're welcome," He said and walked away. The guard that helped Andrew did the same thing my guard did.
"Ok, we're ready. You guys need lots of rest. Then training. How much have you had?" Calista asked. She started walking so we caught up to her and walked next to her. I was on her left, Andrew was on her right.
"Uh... A good amount, Enough to survive what just happened," I answered.
"Ok. Well, when we're done training you... no one ever is, there's always room to improve or keep practicing, but you guys will be more than twice better." We were walking to the side door.
"How are- Where are we going? How are we going there?" I asked.
"Well... I can't tell you the location yet. For security stuff but It's hidden, not on maps. Middle of nothing but trees. It's pretty cool if you ask me. How we're getting there.... that's different. We're going to have to take a plane or train. Can anyone of y'all ride a horse?"
"I can," I said. When I was younger my mom had signed me up for a horseback riding camp. I'd it for about two years.
"Ok. Well, you can't get to the place by any other way." We were standing in front of the door.
"Ok, let's go," Andrew said.
"You guys should get some sleep... and food," She advised us as we left the building.
"Yeah, that would be nice," Andrew said.
