Chapter Thirty Nine

"Good morning, Y/N- oh hello handsome men." June greeted happily while walking out of Minhyuk's apartment, Shownu following close behind her. He pouted at her, immediately pointing towards the engagement ring that rested beautifully on her finger. June giggled sweetly, touching his face and then pinching his cheek. You stopped the party of men that was following behind you, smiling at the sight of your friend.
"What brings my favorite husband and wife to be to the lovely kingdom that is the seventh floor." You gestured towards your residence hall a bit too peppily. Changkyun looked at you, pointing to his expensive watch and mouthing some things that you didn't even bother trying to comprehend.
You need your favorite couple's happiness before you met with the biggest trauma you'd ever faced.
Who knew a single person could bring you so much harm both mentally and physically.
"We were just talking with Minhyuk." Shownu responded, clearly ignoring Changkyun's expression.
"He's our day of coordinator, so we wanted to ask him some things before we went out to look at venues. We're checking a few out right now and there's one that I'm in love with." June gleamed, holding onto Shownu's massive arm. He simply looked down at her with the gentlest of smiles.
"Looking at venues already? You both got engaged three months ago." Yuta looked amused at the two of them. Shownu rolled his eyes at the brunette, shaking his head as he said,
"Our parents are pushing the wedding date as much as possible. Our five year anniversary is next month and the wedding will be around then at earliest."
"Hyung, you're going to pull off a whole wedding in three months?" Changkyun raised an eyebrow at the two of them, obviously not buying a word they were saying.
You couldn't believe them either. The smallest amount of time you had ever heard of to plan a wedding would be around nine months. And these two were going to plan and have a wedding in a third of that time?
"I know. It's not what we were hoping for, but thankfully, neither of us care for a fancy celebration and massive chandeliers with hundreds of people." June leaned farther into Shownu and you couldn't help but smile at the two of them. Their relationship seemed so perfect, you couldn't help but be in awe every time you saw them.
"We'll have forty people, sixty maximum. Shownu and I don't have large families and we don't have that many close friends. We want it to be as small and as intimate as possible. We'll confirm the date soon enough and the invitations will be either personally delivered or mailed."
They had really thought this through. You were happy for them. They deserved all the happiness in the world.
"We really have to go." Changkyun bent down to whisper to you and you simply waved him off with an unimpressed expression.
You were trying to put off seeing him again as much as you could right now.
"Junebug, we should let them leave. I think they have something important."
June glared at Shownu, who was innocently staring down at the girl.
"Ferme ta bouche."
"You can't tell me to shut up in French. You know I can understand you. Five years was enough to get to know you. You can't curse me out in French anymore without me having zero clue what you're saying." Shownu brought her back to lean against his side, and June immediately broke out into a smile at the feeling of it.
"Je t'aime." She cooed at the massive teddy bear of a man.
"I love you too."
They were literally a living kdrama couple. You were shaking in your heels.
"You know, he'd always walk into that restaurant at 11:59 am every single day. Always during my shift. I couldn't help but crush on him."
Changkyun grabbed you by the sleeve of your shirt while June was talking, dragging you away from your friends. At first you resisted, trying to escape his grasp but you gave up.
Why deny the inevitable?
Taeyong and Yuta followed close behind as June shouted from across the hallway,
"If I wasn't engaged I would totally flirt with you both!"
"Junebug, stop it!" Shownu whined loudly at his fiancée.
"I have a boyfriend!" Yuta chimed back, his face breaking out into a smile at the thought of Sicheng.
You were pretty sure he was still in China.
You hadn't seen him in forever. Not since your housewarming party. That was months ago.
"June, you're practically my older sister!" Taeyong shouted, getting into elevator beside the three of you. Changkyun still clutched onto the fabric of your shirt, his hands gently trembling as he held onto it. You noticed. You took it off your shoulder, intertwining your fingers in his, nodding your head at him.
It was the first time where his hands were shaking and you were helping him.
What a shift in the relationship.
Changkyun's hand encouragingly squeezed yours and you did the same back. Taeyong and Yuta didn't even bother to question it. They let you do your thing. It's almost like forgot you were in an elevator. You did better in these now that you had to use them so often. It was more convenient than running up eight flights of stairs just to be able to get home.
The three of them still hadn't filled you in on exactly what was going to happen. All you knew is that you were meeting up in an alleyway beside the old company building.
Mainly because that was the only placed he'd agreed to meet.
Apparently, the three of them had spent a few months getting his contact information and then they just never decided to tell you.
There was a lot of empty gaps in this plan for you but you were just going to trust in your friends. And boyfriend.
"We can take my car. It's not as flashy as Mr. Bugatti over here." Yuta offered as you made your way into the parking garage, pulling the keys out for his BMW. Changkyun merely shrugged, his hand still wrapped tightly around yours.
Yuta slid into the drivers set while Taeyong did the same in the passenger seat. You and Changkyun squished yourself together, shoulder to shoulder in the backseat of the car. He leaned into you, his hands resting neatly in his lap, one intertwined with yours. Though you'd try to pull away, he'd refused to let go.
Suddenly, it hit you.
You were going to meet your old manager. You'd seen him earlier this morning but that was for a few shock ridden moments.
This time you were actually meeting him. In broad daylight. Where he'd actually speak to you, and to them.
None of this gave you a good feeling. Even if Yuta was wearing his spike shoes. He was a dangerous man. He knew how to break and he knew how to rip and how to destroy.
The entire car ride was silent, not that the drive was all that long. If you could run there in fifteen minutes, it would only take five minutes to drive. And it did only take five minutes.
The run down company building was right in front of you. The last time you were here, the building actually looked like a building. The place looked like it was slowly deteriorating, the walls were chipping off and paint was dull and dirty. For mid morning in the city, the street around the building was dark and empty.
"Taeyong, you've got it, right?" Changkyun asked, emphasizing that single word. They really had to use code names. What was it? Taeyong nodded, pulling out his phone and then looking around the general vicinity of where you were standing. Yuta pulled you to him, Changkyun letting go of your hand and taking a step towards the alleyway at the side of the building.
You heard padded footsteps.
You recognized those footsteps. You could recognize them anywhere. You tried to pull away from Yuta but he pulled you back instantly, looking down and shaking his head.
Changkyun neared the dark part of the alley and you watched him with a pit in your stomach, his entire body being engulfed in the darkness. Taeyong neared, slowly inching his way over. You stared at the alleyway, praying that Changkyun would peek his head back out.
"Kyun?" Taeyong whispered, getting closer to it, your heart racing with every second of silence.
Changkyun popped out, his head only barely peeking out, making the side of his face glow in the dim sunlight from this side of the street. You took a breath of relief upon seeing his face. He tilted his head towards the alley. Taeyong nodded, doing the same at Yuta as he turned on his phone, pressing a few buttons and joining Changkyun.
Yuta pushed you behind him, taking your hand and placing it on the back of his white Valentino t-shirt as he began to walk forward. You did as they asked, hiding behind him despite the fact that anyone would be able to see you.
You made your way into the darkness, all sound that could be heard from the dim light suddenly disappearing into an eerie silence. There was a hole of light that shone through the alley. There were empty glass bottles laid around the sides of and along the walls of the two buildings it was in between. The ground was coarse dirt unlike the asphalt roads and paved sidewalks of the outside.
You'd only stepped a few feet away from the main city and it felt like you were in a different world. You bumped into a body, immediately staggering back at the feeling of skin on yours. You were quick to be pulled back.
It was just Changkyun. He was looking straight ahead with a cold expression, his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes glaring. He used his arm, pushing you back behind and in between both Yuta and him. You looked forward yourself, taking a proper look at the man you had never hoped to see again.
His stature was just as short as it used to be, however he was still far taller than you. The once chubby man had become no more. Being able to take a good look at him rather than for a few shock ridden seconds made you see that he was a completely different person. His hair was cut short and his figure was comparable to Shownu's. Despite the guys all being quite a bit taller than him, he looks far more intimidating in his tight black tee and leather pants.
"Hello, Changkyun, Yuta, Taeyong, Y/N." Kyung seethed your name, making your entire body go weak at the sound of it. You somehow had the strength to keep yourself up. He took a step forward with his arms outstretched, a psychotic grin plastered on his face, his white of his eyes somehow managing to shine in the dark. The three guys collectively took a step back, bringing you back with them.
"Another inch closer and I'll break your face." Yuta spat out, cracking his knuckles loudly. Kyung chortled slowly, each note that escaped his mouth deepening as they progressed.
"I'd like to see you try, pretty boy but I'll respect your wishes." He held his hands up, taking a step back with that grin still on his face. You had yet to see him blink. Kyung turned to Changkyun, his expression darkening as soon as he laid eyes in him. Changkyun's face mirrored the same expression and you watched in horror and you watched the both of them stare each other down.
Changkyun was terrifying.
"Hello, baby brother." Kyung cooed at him, his tone gentle but his face just as daunting.
"Excuse me?" Changkyun muttered lowly, raising his eyebrow at the shorter man, his arms crossing at his chest.
"You heard me, Changkyun. I'm sorry—baby brother." He repeated the name, his head tilting to the side as he said in his best baby voice.
"You've been alive for twenty five years and you're finally seeing your big brother for the first time? How does it feel Danny Bun? That's what your mommy used to call you, am I wrong?"
You carefully turned your head towards Changkyun, your heart dropping as soon as you saw his wide eyed expression, his irises shaking rapidly.
"I'm sorry, I should elaborate for your little friends, baby brother. And your girlfriend, of course. Don't think I've forgotten you hiding behind your little guardian angel, sweetheart."
"Don't call her that." Changkyun snapped out of his daze, running a hand through his hair before taking a good look at you, giving you a pained smile.
"Well, baby brother, you're my half brother. We both share the same lousy excuse of a father, though I didn't get the looks." Kyung rolled his eyes at himself, grimacing at the idea. Any of the four of you couldn't believe what he was saying.
"My dad- sorry. Our dad hooked up with my mom and got her pregnant in grad school." Kyung started, his chuckles increasing in pitch, scaring the hell out of all of you.
Changkyun's mother had said something along the lines before you blacked out on the table. About his father having another child before they got married.
And he was him.
"He kept us secret for those five years, and then when they found out, they found our dad the first girl they could score to cover it up. That was your mom. So then, you happened. And he left us both behind."
"What are you trying to get at?" Changkyun interrupted, not seeming to be taking all of this information very well from his expression. You reached out for his hand, pulling it behind to you so you could hold it, drawing small circles on the back of it.
Kyung danced around in place, pacing side to side with his psychotic laugh.
He wasn't always this... insane.
Taeyong watched him, utterly disturbed. You noticed that his phone was on but at the lowest brightness possible so it wouldn't be visible. You didn't know why it was on but he tapped it occasionally to keep it from turning off, at least you assumed so. He held it close to his side, his skinny fingers wrapped tightly around it.
"I always wondered why my little brother got to live the life of a millionaire while I had to live barely surviving, and I always resented you for that. I still do, baby brother."
His facial features faded in the darkness, so much so that his body became a splatter of moving black to your eye.
"I scored myself a job in this lovely building right here. My step father's company." He slammed his fist onto the the brick wall, his knuckles scraping against the rough material and blood beginning to seep out of it. He stared at it with satisfaction, taking his undamaged hand, swiping his finger against his own dark crimson blood and tracing his cheekbone, painting red onto his face.
Changkyun's hand tightened, nudging you back further.
"And then Y/N walked into my life."
You shivered at the sound of your name, feeling Taeyong and Yuta's eyes on you, both taking a step back in almost a surrounding like situation.
"She was the perfect little puppet to play with. My own toy. She was docile, she didn't fight back, she was small. She was a perfect thing to take out my anger on."
Kyung looked directly at you, his eyes somehow managing to get past through the wall of men you were being surrounded by. He still hadn't blinked.
"I'm not sorry for anything I did to you. Your sister too. She was no fun. She'd argue back so I could never do anything to her, but you would listen to my every word and comply with my every wish, sweetheart."
"You're disgusting." Yuta fumed, beginning to take a step forward but Changkyun stretched his arm out in front of him, shaking his head. However, his face was the same as his.
"I may be disgusting to you, but that doesn't make me regret. I enjoyed every second of your pain, Y/N. I loved the way you'd tremble in my arms, the way your hands would shake every time I came near, the way you tried to hide all of your bruises when you went anywhere, the way you tried to keep as quiet as you could when I dragged you down the basement, even the way your tears streamed down your face as I tightened my belt around you, strapping you to that chair for hours. I enjoyed it all." His laugh became more sinister, his unblinking eyes widening as he cackled to the sky, punching his other hand into the wall and dropping down to the ground at the sight of his own blood.
It was mortifying.
"And then she left. I let my guard down and she left. She escaped from me. My little paper doll was no longer." He stared at his bloodied hands, his pupils shaking violently as the darkness of the alley dimmed down even more.
"She became successful. I had no doll to rip into pieces and watch try to tape itself back together again. But then she got with my baby brother."
His head snapped up to the both of you, his vision directing to your intertwined hands, rolling his eyes.
"And suddenly, I could take down two birds with one stone. Take the girl, destroy her, break the boy. It was a foolproof plan that would end in my satisfaction. My revenge would've been sealed. But you just had to butt in at that exact moment, baby brother."
"Don't call me that."
"I want to take my revenge right now. I want you both to break in front of me. I want you to shatter into tiny pieces."
Kyung lifted himself up off the ground, finally taking that one step forward.
You were pulled even farther back by Taeyong, being launched back closer to the light you had all entered through. The opening on the other end of the alley was pitch black, Kyung's hysterically unhinged grin becoming more visible with every foot closer he became.
His bruised hand dug into his back pocket, rapidly pulling it out to reveal a blade. The four of you collectively gasped at the sight of the shiny weapon.
"He's got a knife, sir." Taeyong said to no one particularly, watching as Kyung broke out into a maniacal cackle as he charged towards the three of you, waving the blade around in the sky. Yuta was the first to dodge, his reflexes ducking him under as soon he made the first move. Taeyong wasn't in his range so he didn't do much.
Changkyun panicked, looking at you for a split second before shoving you to the side, into Taeyong and letting Kyung run straight at him while wielding the blade. You screamed in horror as he approached him, watching Changkyun very calmly shift to the left while Kyung sliced the air at the right.
He turned back as soon as he realized how swiftly his attack had been avoided. Kyung's eyes narrowed at Changkyun, who was merely smirking at him.
He was trying to get himself killed.
Taeyong held your arm, holding you against his chest while you tried to escape his arms.
He was going to get himself killed.
You weren't going to watch him get killed.
Taeyong pulled you out of the alleyway, as Kyung took another swing at Changkyun, who casually dropped to the ground to miss the hit.
Kyung was getting annoyed.
And Changkyun was moving far too nimbly. He was giving you anxiety.
"Baby brother, stop avoiding me." Kyung growled at the man who had sprung up off the ground, teasingly gesturing him to come at him with his finger.
Changkyun was always confident but now was not the time to be confident.
Kyung lunged at him, catching Changkyun off guard with the attack. The blade grazed his left brachium, slicing through his skin, his own blood dripping off the end of it. Taeyong slapped a hand over your mouth to prevent you from screaming.
Changkyun wasn't even fazed. He hadn't even flinched or pulled back at the feeling. He looked as though he hadn't been cut. He glanced down at his bleeding arm, scoffing as he narrowed his eyes at the man who was gazing at the dirtied knife with satisfaction.
"Okay, that's it." He scowled a different type of look glinting in his eyes. A frightening one.
If you had blinked you would've missed it.
His hand slung across, the side of it harshly hitting the left corner of Kyung's neck.
His eyes rolled into the back of his head as his entire body went stiff, dropping to the dirt, his blade bouncing and landing at his feet.
Sirens blared in the background.
Changkyun dusted off his hands, pressing one of them to his injured arm as he looked back at you, giving you the sweetest smile as if he hadn't just completely disarmed a man.
A mob of police officers came rushing through the alley from either direction. They all crowded around the paralyzed figure, picking him up off the ground and slapping a pair of handcuffs onto his frozen hands.
"Park Kyung, you are under arrest for sexual harassment, assault, and the attempted kidnapping of Choi Y/N. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you."
You watched in shock as you watched the psychotic tormentor be taken up in the arms of the law.
"They were a bit late, but good to know that they showed up." Yuta took a breath of relief, grimacing at the man who looked completely out of it unlike the manic version that you'd seen a few seconds ago.
Changkyun strolled over to you, a hand still clutching the top of his arm, the blood dripping down his gray shirt and down into his arm.
"You idiot!" You screamed, not even bothering to care if you'd scared him because he'd just made you go through all seven thousand stages of shock and fright.
"What were you thinking? Running at a person with a knife? Empty handed?" You couldn't contain yourself as a few tears trickled down your cheeks at the sight of him. He still had the same mischievous smirk plastered onto his face.
"You're bleeding. How did all of these cops even get here?" You choked out, your hand hovering over his arm. Changkyun bent down, playfully butting his forehead with yours with a cheeky chuckle.
How the hell was he laughing?
"Babygirl, you're dating a multimillionaire. I have the law wrapped around my pinky." He looked to Yuta who was beginning to approach the men that were holding Kyung in their grasp. You all focused your attention on your best friend.
"Officers, if you wouldn't mind." Yuta chimed politely, unlooping their arms from his, Kyung's legs going slightly weak.
Whatever Changkyun did completely disoriented him.
Yuta took a step back, stretching out his arms and cracking his knuckles again. Then he lunged at Kyung, tackling him to the asphalt ground as his fist met with Kyung's helpless face.
"That one was for hurting his friend."
He punched him straight in the nose this time.
"That one was for hurting his girlfriend."
His fist slammed into his face one last time, blood spewing out his nose, making you wince at the sight.
"And that one was for hurting my little sister."
"Yu, that's enough." Taeyong pulled him back while the officers picked Kyung, who was completely knocked up off the ground and throwing him into the back of the police car. A few more salty droplets dripped down your face as you watched the car drive off.
It was actually over. It was all over. He was gone.
A few more of the officers staying to check the crime scene.
"I'd wipe your tears but I don't want to get my blood on your face." Changkyun joked, gesturing to his arm which was still very much bleeding. You wiped your own tears with your hands, slapping your cheeks and  placing your hand on the small of his back.
"Let's get that cleaned up." You sniffled, but Changkyun didn't move when you tried to get him to walk forward.
"You can't take me to the hospital for a little scratch."
"Kyun, the blood soaked your entire sleeve."
"It's not that deep, plus you don't like hospitals. You can just fix it up at home." He insisted. Yes, you were very much capable of doing that but a hospital might be better. He was quite literally sliced with a blade.
"One more thing, what exactly did you do to him?" You asked, completely changing the subject. Changkyun grinned before responding happily,
"I hit his carotid sinus. It makes the receptors think that the body's blood pressure is too high and it results in temporary paralyzation." He nudged you slightly, not even realizing the severity of his words or the situation,
"I know. It must be nice to have a smart and sexy boyfriend."
