my teeth softly nibbled on the inside
of my bottom lip while i cautiously
looked between the seat in front of me
and the bar where you stood. from the
corner of my eye i could easily tell you
were tense by the straightness of your
shoulders and the frustrated look of your
brows.
you arrived at our table and i silently
prayed in the back of my mind that he
wouldn’t cause a scene at the sight of you
in front of our table with cups in hand.
“tea and coffee, black” you said forcing
the corners of your lips up in a slight tight
smile. my eyes darted to the person across
from me who was eyeing you harshly.
“thanks,” i smiled softly grabbing my cup
and kicking underneath the table, hitting him
square in the kneecap. he eyed me with the
same glare he was giving you before
reverting his attention to you and nodding.
you didn’t leave after giving us our orders
instead stood in place continuously nodding
your head.
my ears were hot and if my hair wasn’t
covering them i was sure you could see
the redness of them due to my nerves creeping
from my feet up. “well we should be going,”
i said standing and scooting out of the booth,
stopping at the opening where you stood
blocking my way. you were still standing in
a daze oblivious to the fact you were blocking
my way. “landon,” i whispered, your head
snapping my way. i nodded to the door and
your body hoping you’d understand the small
gesture without me needing to speak.
“right,” you mumbled scratching the back of
your neck. i could tell you were nervous since
all you would ever do was scratch the side
of your chin or behind your neck.
“it was good seeing you, brooklyn” you called
out as i got to the door. my stomach slightly
twisting in tingles. “and you too, bradley,”
you added. i turned to acknowledge you
and could see the scowl across his face
over the fact i responded, “you too landon.”
with a sigh i turned back forward and pushed
