brooklyn

the air was immediately

taken from me as your mother

clung to me.

although i couldn't breathe,

a felt the wind slowly being

knocked out of me i couldn't

help but laugh.

one, because i hadn't seen your

mother in over eight months

and two, because the look upon

your face was priceless.

one thing i always loved about

your mother was her will to

go to depths to embarrass you

on any occasion;

while one thing i always admired

about you was how you embraced

everything about your moms

rambles, admitting that she was

right, even though you were

embarrassed down to the core.

it felt nice seeing your mother

again, since she had become

one of my own; taking place

of the absence i grew up with.

in between her mumbles

and lips against my cheek,

i could make out the sound

of 'i miss you' and 'how are you'

while also 'oh my gosh.'

once your mom allowed

me to regain my breath and

straighten out my shirt i couldn't

help but feel nervous and stunned,

when she asked me to join you

two for lunch.

not wanting to break your mothers

heart and turn her grinning face

into a downwards frown, i nodded

mumbling, "sure."

if i thought running into you

in the grocer and enjoying the

touch of your skin was awkward,

i clearly wasn't ready for a few hours

with you and some food.
