landon

i hoped our lunch outing would

have been at a nice restaurant downtown,

however, my mom insisted on us

returning to her house for her cooking.

(not that i minded of course,

who would even turn down a mothers'

home cooking?)

at first thought of having lunch

with you, i was anxious, dreading,

that one simple dine between us three

could turn left and go downhill.

i should have known to never doubt

what could be because you always

succeed in triumphing my doubts,

proving my negativity wrong.

i leaned against the kitchen island

with a beer in my right hand,

pressing the tip of the bottle against

my bottom lip while a smile played

across my face.

you and my moms' backs were

towards me while you held a

glass of wine in your right hand.

my mom mimicked you with her

own in glass in her left hand while

she prepped the veggies and

talked you through the various

steps in the cook book spread

in front of you on the counter top.

you both bantered back and forth,

laughing amongst each other as if

you were lifelong friends who

did this often.

occasionally, you'd glance over

your shoulder my way and flash

me a smile then turn back towards

my mom, taking a sip from your glass,

and giving my mother your full attention.

it was a nostalgic feeling,

being back in a place with my two favorite

people, where i was nothing more than an

onlooker;

a third wheel with my mother and first love.

Dedicated to victoriaxxx12, for introducing me to the song Title and Registration by Death Cab For Cutie. She thought it related to Brooklyn and Landon and I couldn't agree. I linked the song above for you guys to give it a listen :-)
