brooklyn

the startled look upon your face

eased my tension and fear of being

next to you in the dairy aisle.

the way your frown and frustrated face

made your brows arch downward

as if they were a thick unibrow;

a face i remembered all too well,

made a chuckle escape between my lips.

the side of your lip twitched up into

a smile, "i was dragged here."

i nodded and wrapped my free hand

around my small basket draped over

my left arm.

"i figured," i lightly giggled,

"you never willingly wanted to

step foot in a grocer."

instantly my heart stopped,

all the blood draining to the tips

of my ears causing them to fluster

pink; regretting mentioning a past

time between us two.

"i mean-" i rushed but was cut off

by your sly smile, "don't worry about it."

i nodded and forced a smile,

shuffling in place.

when i first turned down the aisle

and saw you standing there

i wanted to dart the other way but

instead curiosity got the better of me

and i felt a tug pulling me towards you.

"i don't know which one to get," you

laughed rubbing the side of your cheek

while looking back and forth between

me and the creamers.

i could tell you were trying to make

things less awkward for me by changing

the subject and i also knew you had no

idea which one you used.

i sighed and smiled, reaching over him

and grabbing the blue and red lidded

creamer, "this one."

you nodded and flashing one of your

charming smiles, taking it from my

hands "thanks."

i pulled my hand away and rubbed

my fingers, feeling the warmth

your hand left behind once you

grabbed the creamer from my hand;

brushing my fingers in the process.

i tilted my head and eyed you,

noticing you were now shuffling in

place while your eyes were lingering

upon my hands.
