The Connection They Share

Chapter 4

I blink finding myself back on the cliffside. "So you came back"
I whipped around as Loki walked toward me, I smile slightly "I still don't remember you, I just recently passed out so that's probably why I'm here"
"I could help you with that" I look over at him "You know the whole remembering thing"
I see an emerald coloured door appear just behind Loki, "How can I trust you've not messed with them"
He looked me in the eye "because they're mine too, some of the best" I don't think he meant for me to hear that last part. Since I'm stuck here until my mind and body recovers I might as well find out more about myself. "Okay, I trust you"
He extended his hand and I grasped onto it as he pulled me through the door into the past.

We stepped out into a small and dark room, actually it was more of a cell. The floor littered with dirt, rotten food and even rat skeletons but in the very back corner was a girl. Her matted hair covering her face and arms as she was curled in way that her face was protected by her knees, if it wasn't from her tapping feet, I wouldn't have even noticed her.
"What is this place?" I ask Loki finally tearing my eyes from the girl on the floor. "A Hydra base in 1997, that little girl is 5 years old." He replies not looking from the scene. "Why are we here?" I say
"You'll see" was all Loki said, I was about to ask more but a movement came from the corner.
"Where am I?" A small boy had appeared out of nowhere; the girl jumped and looked over at him. "Umm, y-you're in my r-room" she stuttered pressing herself closer to the wall. "H-how did you get here?"
"Mother was teaching me magic then I ended up here." He paused "Sorry my name is Loki, what's yours"
She unfurled herself slightly "I-I'm AV-3. You can do magic?" she asks intrigue on her face.
"Yeah, you want to see" she nods and he produces a green butterfly that flies around the room. "бабочка" she whispers and tries to catch it but her hand goes through the butterfly and it disappears. A frown comes onto her face, Loki quickly stands up and goes up to her. "One day I'll catch you a real butterfly, I promise" he holds out his pinky but just like the butterfly, the girl's hand went through his. This time Loki's face falls, "oh I guess I'm not really here with you, I'm sorry"
To my surprise a small smile appears on the girl's face. "I'm glad you're not truly here, they hurt me, I don't want them to hurt you too" she then turns and sits back in her corner. "Avery? I have to go now" she nods and lays her head back on her arms but then her head shoots up "Loki? Will you be back?" A hopeful expression coming across her dirty face. "Only if you want me too" Loki replies with a slight smirk. She nods and as Loki fades away a small smile could be seen on her face. "до свидания, локи"

I turn away from the scene, "So that was me", Loki nods
"How long had I been in this place?"
"I don't know, when we first met I was around 6 in Midgardian years and you were 5. I can only assume you had been there since birth" I looked up at him in shock, I was born here in this dump but who are my parents? And why can't I remember anything? I catch a look at another door but this one was blue. "What is that?"
"Looks like your powers are remembering your past and allowing you to access more memories because it isn't me. I step closer and open the door before looking back at Loki. "Are you coming?" He nods and follows me through the door.

I realised as soon as we exited the door that we were not in that cell anymore. We had stepped into a lab with the little girl from before strapped down to a table. All around doctors fawned over medical equipment and just above the room was a glass window and several business looking men were sat behind it. An older doctor stepped up to the table and held up a vial containing a turquoise liquid. "This serum enhances any powers an individual my have as well as increases speed, strength and endurance but not to the point of a super soldier. With this new serum and our young subject, this is the start of Hydra's new line of soldiers. Highly trained, enhanced individuals that will be able to take down organisations like SHEILD with a snap of their fingers." He flashed a manic grin as he turned from the spectators and to the girl on the table. He paced over and placed several vials of the serum into slots near the table, these slots connected to wires which were inserted into the girl. "Let the process begin" he commanded as the scientists began injecting the serum into the girl's veins.
I turned my face away at the sounds of her screaming, knowing that was me. I itched to scratch at my wrists to remove the poison that's inside of me. I went to rip my wrist open but Loki grasped my hand firmly to prevent me from doing so but remained focused on the scene in front of us.
As her screams reached their limit I noticed blue smoke tendrils beginning to expand through the room. Everything went silent until the smoke receded into the girl before expanding with a force that smashed the equipment and glass causing everyone to take cover. "Папа, помоги, пожалуйста, останови это" the girl whispers to no one.
