The Babysitter

Still Here

Teal's PoV:

I was just sat in the corner, deep in thought, when Lapis broke the news.

"OUR PARENTS ARE ALL STILL HERE!!"

"What?!" Emerald exclaims, looking around, "but that's impossible!"

"I... really?" Peach mumbles in shock.

"How?" Chocolate asks, spinning around in slow circles, desperately searching for any sign of his mother.

"My mother... she saw them!" Lapis claims

"What on Ear- I mean, what on Mira are you talking about?" Rose says suspiciously.

"Ghosts!" the blue-suited crewmate exclaims, "my mother died, saw your parents as ghosts, then she came alive again!"

"PREPOSTEROUS!" Lemon yells, slamming her fists into the table. "Ghosts don't exist, I know you're trying to make us feel better, but it's all just false hope"

"No" Lapis insists, "she saw them"

"Well... your mommy is the best..." Indigo mumbles, earning a shocked gasp from her sister.

"You know ghosts are fake!" Lemon hisses at her.

"I don't normally believe in them... but I'm pretty sure I felt something" I admit, finally contributing to the conversation. I felt slightly stupid, but luckily the others seemed to agree.

"See!" Lapis excitedly shouts, "ghosts!"

"I saw mommy in my sleep" Chocolate offers, making me feel more secure. "I had a b-bad dream, I was in admin" he shudders, "admin bad... it was dark again... and someone was trying to kill me... but then she rescued me!"

"I didn't know whether it was just me trying to make the pain less..." Emerald murmurs, "but I feel a connection too. When I look after the plant... it just makes me feel closer" his face suddenly turned to one of determination, "I never used to think much about the paranormal, but I'm prepared to believe anything if it helps me see my father again"

Indigo's PoV:

I was really unsure of the whole 'ghost' thing, but Lapis must have been telling the truth, right? And his mother wouldn't made that up...

"That's the spirit!" Lapis declares. "Snow? What do you think about ghosts?"

"Ghost?" He mumbles, looking up for the first time since we'd started talking.

"Never mind" Lapis grins, brushing thoughts of the younger crewmate aside. "We have to find a way to communicate with them!"

"Communicate..." Chocolate thought, "Let's go to comms!"

"Okay!" Lapis declares, "Let's go, team!"

"Shouldn't we stay here?" Teal points out, clearly still nervous about travelling around the ship without an adult.

"Come on, I'm not missing a chance to reconnect with my father" Peach exclaims.

"But he's not your-" Rose mumbles, but Peach elbows her and she abruptly stops.

I didn't bother to wonder about it much, instead I walked over to Snow, gently taking his hand. "We're going comms"

"Okay" he says, a hint of a smile ever so briefly flashing across his face.

Snow's PoV:

I was aware that Lapis has just asked me a question, however I had only processed one word of it.

"Ghosts?" I ask, wanting him to repeat what he just said, but he just gives up.

"What do you think about ghosts?" My mother says. Was... was that the question?

Before I could think how to answer, the purple one gently grabbed my hand.
"We're going to comms" she said.

"Okay" I reply, a small amount of... happiness(?) filling me for a second. Yeah, I wasn't too sure what it was, but it didn't last for too long, even though I tried my best to hold onto the feeling.

"They're going to comms?" I hear a voice ask

"They're trying" another one sighs.

"At least they know we're looking out for them, I guess"
