Eden hesitated and then smiled, as she listened to his words. He was completely straight-faced and serious. And then.... She couldn't help but feel pleased.

Edward must have realized she was satisfied with his answer, since he picked up a book and began to read while she ate in a comfortable silence. Sometimes he would bring up something he was reading to her. Other than that, they shared no more words about Carla or the lamp.

As evening fell, the two were quick to fall into a comfortable conversation like they always did. Usually they would be joking back and forth, Edward chuckling and looking highly amused. As though sitting next to her was the highest honor anyone could give him.

By nightfall, Edward surprised her once more as he announced how tired he was. Doing something she had never seen him do; fall swiftly asleep in the cot next to her bed. Eden thought it was quite strange, seeing as he often stayed up reading or talking to her until she was fast asleep. But he fell asleep quite quickly, as she heard him snoring from her bed.

She raised an eyebrow, thinking it was quite strange seeing him sleep. It seemed almost unnatural for him to be sleeping. It was just one of those things that made her question if he was truly real. Perhaps it was just her mind playing tricks on her.

Of course, he ate, even if she never saw him do so. Of course, he went out into the sunlight...Even if she had never seen him. And of course, he slept...Which was what he was doing now.

Eden looked over to him once more curiously, examining the way his bronze hair fell onto his face while he slept. She couldn't help but grin, thinking it was unfair as her heart raged in her chest while her eyes lingered on him.

He had made it clear they had not been together. Very clear they were just friends.

But she couldn't help how she was feeling.

The day he had walked into her room had certainly been a surprise to her. In all of her nightmares, there were a few faces that had stood out that she could clearly see in her mind's eye. Edward's had been one of those faces.

He was really unfairly beautiful, Eden thought as she continued to glance at him; she wanted to memorize the pattern of his freckles, the exact hue of his eyes that seemed to change color, and the angle of his long eyelashes.

He had made it clear he did not love her. That they were not together. And yet, she could not help but find herself falling for him. It wasn't a simple crush...

There was much she did not know, but this she knew. It was not simple what she was feeling.

Though Edward was kind and patient, having a little bit of danger and mystery to him; she knew her feelings were not just sudden. These feelings were familiar. They attached to her very chest, her heart making it known to her when they were in close proximity...almost begging her to let them out.

Sometimes she would even physically feel it. It was like an invisible string pulling them closer and closer. And yet...There was also an unexplained fear she felt when she was near him. A fear of loss.

And she had no idea how to work that out.

Besides, according to Edward, she loved another. And perhaps what she was feeling for the man sleeping next her was nothing more than an unfortunate case of unrequited love. One that maybe her real self had gotten over...And what she felt was just lingering from that.

Eden sighed as she closed her eyes, looking away from him as she felt even more confused. Hoping to get lost as she starred in her nightmares.
