Charles's POV
Six months later...
I roll down the hall beside Elizabeth Grace, seeing her smiling—the light of the moon illuminating the smile that always brings the same expression to my own face. The children have all been put to sleep. Even poor Timothy who is usually plagued by nightmares seems to be sleeping so soundly tonight. Of course, Elizabeth Grace is still listening for him as she is the one to normally calm him. Everything feels still and calm... and perfect. "I believe this is the first night in three months that everyone has gone to bed without any sort of fuss," she states with a laugh.
"I believe you're right," I reply. "Have Timothy's nightmares gotten any better?"
"He still struggles. I'm still not entirely sure of what he's seen."
Our dear Timothy is one of our runaways. He's only 12 years old. He has no home to speak of before coming here. Elizabeth Grace found him about two years ago—rather he found her. He was in an area that contains many people that aren't exactly very fond of mutants—making it quite dangerous for us. Alex nearly lost his life while they were trying to find him.
His physical mutation made it nearly impossible for him to mask what he is. His skin is covered by various blue patterns. His hair is a bright green, and his iris and pupil are little more than an outline inside his eye. Many were terrified of him—believing him to be some kind of monster or devil—and treated him as such. It was terribly sad to hear Elizabeth Grace describe his fearful surprise when he discovered she wasn't afraid of him.
