~Angel~

I had strict orders to go to the beach party considering Annabel would be there. I had to keep an eye on her, and frankly, I didn't mind that one bit.

When I arrived with a few of my friends, we headed straight to the water. We took our shirts off and instantly every girl in the radius swooned. Ok. So, we have 8-packs. I'm pretty sure we beat their boyfriends hands down on that part. I smirked and we all jumped in. As we messed around in the water, a scream got my attention.

Her scream.

Annabel.

I quickly got out and sprinted towards that Carlos kid, who had Annabel thrown over his shoulder. I had to fight the urge to kill him on the spot for touching her. In a matter of seconds, I had Carlos laying in the sand a few feet away and Annabel in my arms. Nothing mattered at that moment, except for her. I had to make sure she was safe.

~Annabel~

I glanced around to see that no one noticed this whole ordeal. Thank god. I glanced back to Angel and stared into his eyes. He looked painfully worried and I pulled my hand up to stroke his cheek.

"Are you ok, Bel?" He asked me, concern written all over his face.

"Of course. I'm fine. Just another water scare. I promise I'm fine." I lied. I didn't want him to know about my anxiety attacks.

The weird thing was, my anxiety was gone. As soon as I made contact with Angel, everything was ok. It's like he warded off everything that was troubling me.

He leaned in next to my ear and whispered "You didn't get much better at the lying, Bel."

"Annabel! Are you ok? What happened?" Star and Kasey came running out of the water towards us and Angel lifted me up to my feet, stepping away slightly.

"Nothing. Carlos was messing around and I got scared. I almost drowned in the ocean a couple years ago and I freaked out a little. It's nothing." Wait... Carlos?

"Carlos!" I ran over to him and he still had that shocked look on his face.

I couldn't hold it in this time. I started cracking up laughing and people looked at me like I'm a freak. I don't blame them. I kind of am. I helped him up and after throwing on our clothes, we headed over to the bonfire which was just starting. The sun was setting and it looked absolutely breathtaking. I looked back for Angel but noticed he was no where to be found. That kind of upset me, but I didn't quite know why.

"Hey. I'm gonna go talk to my friends for a little. See you in a few." Carlos stood up and waved goodbye before walking towards a group of guys.

Well that's real sweet of him. Leave me all alone on the wood bench. I sighed, standing up and heading for the drink stand. As I went to grab a coke, I bumped into someone. It was the girl who tripped me in school.

"S-sorry." I stuttered and internally cursed at myself.

"Get out of my way, bitch." She shoved me and I fell back but collided with a hard chest.

Turning around, I came face to chest with Angel. I looked up and he smiled at me before pulling me behind him and walking up to the girl.

"Hey Angel." She fluttered her eyelashes and started twirling her hair.

"Hi, May." Angel sounded really bored, which made me happy. I almost got jealous. Wait.... Jealous? What?

"What's up?" She sounded like a love sick puppy. Gosh, gag me now.

"I want you to leave Annabel alone. I don't want you anywhere near her. Do you understand?" He sounded dead serious and that stupid look on May's face slowly slipped away.

"And who the fuck is she to you?" She was annoyed now, and I tried to hold back a giggle.

"She's my girlfriend. So stay the hell away from her. Do you understand me?" He sounded angry. I took a step back, the anxiety starting to build up all over again. What did he say? Girlfriend?

I turned quickly on my heel and walked briskly away. Away from the party. Away from the people. Away from... Him. After walking away from the party, I was a ways down the beach and I suddenly regretted leaving. It was cold out and I forgot my jacket, so I was left in nothing but my dress and bikini, which didn't do much. I sat down in the sand and stared out into the water. The moon was reflecting on the waves, making it one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" A familiar husky voice filled my ears. I jumped yet again.

"Whoa. Sorry, did I scare you? I didn't mean to. You look cold. Here." Angel slipped his jacket off and put it over my shoulders.

He sat down beside me and gazed out over the calm water. We sat like that for a few minutes before he spoke again.

"Do you always stare at people?" Crap. I didn't even realize I was watching him that whole time. I blushed and looked away.

"Sorry..." I mumbled and looked down at my hands.

He moved a little closer, still leaving space between us but I was starting to feel his body heat roll off of him. I was still cold, even with his jacket, so I closed the distance and huddled up on his side. His deep chuckle rumbled low in his chest and he wrapped an arm around me. God, he smelled so good. Like a woodsy, fresh drier sheet kind of smell. We sat in a comfortable silence but I of course ruin everything.

"Why'd you call me your girlfriend?" I honestly wanted to know, but something told me it was stupid to ask.

"Because... I was making a point for her to stay away from you. She's a threat. And that's enough for me to protect you from her." It was a peculiar answer, but I didn't question him any further on the subject.

Suddenly I blurted out before I could stop myself "Are you the boy from my window?" I slapped a hand over my mouth and shut my eyes.

I'm so stupid.

Everything went quiet and I was scared to open my eyes again. I wanted the sand to open up and pull me under. I peeked an eye open and surprisingly didn't jump this time. He was so close that we were within kissing distance.

"Yes." He whispered. He looked down at my lips before looking back into my eyes.

"And you knew about my mother?" I hesitated to ask that question. He nodded and a flash of sadness hit his eyes before they were back to normal again.

"H-how?" I shut my eyes, suddenly afraid of the answer.

"I was there... I saw it happen." He sounded so broken, I just wanted to comfort him.

I opened my eyes and crawled onto his lap, laying my head on his chest. The steady rhythm of his heart calmed me. He wrapped his arms around me and we just stayed like that for what seemed like forever. Soon enough, he pulled me away a little and looked into my eyes.

"We should get back. People will get worried." He stood up and held his hand out. I took the gesture.

Then I remembered something. That kiss. It was amazing. But wait a minute. Why did he kiss me? He started walking away and I pulled his hand back, stopping him.

"Why did you kiss me?" He looked taken aback but soon enough that sexy smirk was back on his face.

I squealed a little as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me close.

"Because...you're my 'girlfriend'." With that, his lips crashed onto mine and a wave of butterflies flew throughout my body.

I giggled at his little joke, but something told me it wasn't one. It sounded sincere. All too soon, he pulled away and laced his fingers in mine, pulling me back towards the party. It felt so right being with him. It's like he was made for me, as I was for him.

"Am I?" I challenged him, just to see what he would say. His next response sent shivers down my spine.

"Yes. All mine. Forever. That's a promise." He kissed my forehead before pulling away and leaving with a group or guys.

"Annabel. Where were you? I was looking everywhere. You know, when I said I'd see you in a few, I meant a few minutes, not a few hours." Carlos chuckled before his face grew serious.

"Who's jacket is that?" I tensed, realizing I was still wearing Angel's jacket.

"Umm... Uhh..." Kasey and Star appeared out of no where and saved me without even knowing it.

"Hey Carlos. We were gonna take Annabel home because we have to ask her a few things. That alright?" Carlos huffed then sighed, defeated.

"Yea. Sure I guess. See ya later Annabel." He walked up beside me and whispered in my ear "This isn't over." Before walking away.

Creepy much. I shrugged it off and soon enough I was in the car with Star and Kasey, on my way home.

"Ok. Three questions. One, what went on between you and Carlos? Two, what went on between you and Angel Owens? And three, who's jacket is that?" Star pointed at the jacket I had zipped up on me.

Oh boy. Here we go.

"One, nothing really. He left me sitting alone on a bench so I got up to get a drink. Two, he just saved me from having a heart attack from being in the water. And three, um... This is his jacket." I went on to explain what had happened. Of course I left out the part about my mother dying and him being in my window years ago.

"Oh my god! He kissed you? Do tell!" Kasey was practically jumping up and down in the driver's seat and I blew out a puff of air.

"It was... Amazing." And it really was. Something was mysterious about that boy. But I liked it. A lot.

The girls dropped me off at home and I walked inside to an empty house, yet again. Sweet. No note this time. I ran upstairs and got dressed in a long t-shirt before brushing my teeth and jumping in bed. My phone was still laying on my nightstand. Suddenly, it went off. I opened it and an unknown number texted me. It read:

"Remember what I said, Bel(; -A

I knew right away who it was. I couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face. Soon enough I fell asleep, dreaming about one particular boy. Angel.

My angel.
