~Angel~

I was so angry! Annabel agreed to go on the date with Carlos tonight after all that happened today. I stormed out of biology before the bell rang and went straight home. Screw the other class of the day. I don't think I could handle seeing Carlos talking to my Annabel any longer. When I arrived at my house, my friend, Cilix, was laying on my couch watching tv.

"Hey man. Home so soon?" His strong English accent filled my ears.

I grunted in reply and ran up to my room. Cilix never went to school. And when he did, he always got kicked out, so he just stayed home. I sat at the end of my bed with my head in my hands. Gosh. What do I do now? I have to win her heart. Suddenly, there was a knock at my door and seconds later Cilix barged in.

"Dude, Chapin's home." His voice was hoarse and his face was red.

I always knew Cilix liked my sister. Who wouldn't? She's a beauty. I know that sounds awkward coming from me but I didn't mean it like that in any way. She honestly was beautiful and anyone would be lucky to have her. She had bleach blonde hair that fell down her back all the way to her waist and piercing blue eyes. She was very sweet when she wanted to be and drew all the guys in. The thing about her and Cilix is, they're always weird around each other. So it's safe to say she likes him too.

"Go talk to her." I lifted my head and smirked as he shut the door and backed up against it.

"Are you crazy?" He whisper yelled.

"You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you like her." I started laughing as he picked up my lamp and threw it straight at me.

I caught it swiftly in mid air and gently set it down on my night stand. Cilix was bright red now, which made me smile triumphantly.

"Either you go talk to her, or I will. And trust me, it won't be to make small talk." I started cracking up as his eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.

"Dude no!" I opened my door and started running downstairs, Cilix hot on my trail.

"Chapin!!! Your lover wants to talk to you!" I sprinted around the island in the kitchen just as Cilix ran in, nearly running into my sister.

"What are you idiots doing? I come home for not even five minutes and you're already chasing each other around." She rolled her eyes and kissed both of our cheeks before putting the groceries away.

Cilix blushed and walked back out into the living room, jumping and landing on the couch. He turned on adventure time and I chuckled a little. He's such a kid. Even though he's 18, like me. I turned back to my sister and took a deep breath.

"Chapin, I have a proposition."

~Annabel~

Angel was gone the rest of the day. He wasn't in gym, which I had after Biology. Honestly, I was a little disappointed. One time I got tired while running and he picked me up from behind and carried me. I started giggling and made him put me down before the teacher saw us. I don't know what it was about him, but I was so comfortable around him. Could I possibly like him? No. That's ridiculous. I mean... It is right?

"Hey hon. How was your day?" My father was surprisingly home.

"Good." I lied. "I have a date tonight with my friend Carlos. I was gonna invite a few friends over to help me out. That ok?" I smiled with puppy dog eyes and he nodded and smiled back before disappearing into the kitchen.

I headed upstairs and sent Star a quick text before doing my homework. It took me about five minutes, considering it was a worksheet that was one sided. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. I walked out in the hall and looked down at the door to see Star, Greg, and Kasey being let in by my dad. I ran down the stairs to greet them, but tripped on the last stair and fell face first. My dad caught me and I straightened up, my cheeks reddening of embarrassment. Everyone was laughing at me and I sent them all dirty looks before leading the trio up to my room.

Greg came along because he had nothing better to do so Star and him sat down on my bed while Kasey helped me pick out an outfit. Carlos said it was a formal date, so she helped me put on a sparkly purple dress with matching silver heels. She reminded me to wear my black lingerie and I simply rolled my eyes but put it on nonetheless. She did my makeup, making my eyes pop and my cheeks rosy. All that was left was my hair. Star decided to do it for me. She put it in an up-do, leaving two pieces hang in the front and curling the ends. In the end, I looked absolutely beautiful.

"Thanks guys. This means a lot." I smiled and they returned it while Greg just sat there looking bored.

"Alright ladies. This is fun and all but we need to get going. I'm starving!" Greg started complaining like a little girl and I couldn't help but laugh.

They were planning on eating at a pizza shop a few blocks down from the restaurant Carlos was taking me to. They didn't want to interrupt us and they didn't want to wear "proper clothes" just to go out to eat. I mentally rolled my eyes at that. But eventually we said our goodbyes and they left, leaving me to wait for Carlos to come pick me up.

Around six, the doorbell rang. I glided down the stairs just as my dad answered the door.

"You must be Carlos. Hi, I'm Bryan Smith, her father." Carlos smiled back at my dad and shook hands with him.

He was wearing a suit and his hair was nicely styled on his head. In his free hand, he was holding a rose. When he saw me his eyes widened and he looked me up and down before smiling. His stare made me uneasy. There was a glint of something in his eyes that I couldn't quite figure out.

"You look beautiful, Annabel." Even when he said my name it sent shivers down my spine. And not the good kind either.

"Well, we should get going. The reservation is at seven and it takes a while to get there." He held out his hand but I stepped back and told him I need a minute.

He nodded in reply and waited at the door as I closed it. I turned around and took a few deep breathes.

"Annabel, what's wrong?" My father looked at me as I slowly glanced up at him.

"I don't know. I'm just a little nervous I guess." Technically I was, but not for the reason he probably thought.

"Here's your problem." He ran upstairs and came down moments later with a white sparkly shrug and my phone.

"There. Now you look modest, and you have an emergency item." He smiled and I smiled back.

"Thanks daddy. I love you." I pulled him into a hug and waved before opening the door to face Carlos.

He handed me the rose and I thanked him before he led me to the passenger side. He rounded the car and got in before starting it and pulling out of the driveway. And we were off. I settled in my seat, still a little uncomfortable. He kept sending me side glances and finally broke the silence.

"So um... I know this is in the past but what exactly happened at the party that night?" I straightened my back and looked at him as I struggled with the words to say.

"I took a walk down the beach and I got cold. A nice guy came along and let me wear his jacket. Then we walked back and I forgot to give it back to him." I refused to tell him the whole truth.

"A nice guy? Do you know his name?" He sounded amused and I figured he already knew everything, even though that was impossible.

"No. He never told me." It wasn't entirely a lie, and Carlos accepted the answer, letting the matter drop.

We arrived at the restaurant awhile later and he opened the door for me, helping me out of the car. He walked me in, putting his hand on the small of my back. I shivered unintentionally at the feeling of his hand. It wasn't warm like Angel's. It was ice cold. He walked up to the desk and spoke to the man in French. So the restaurant was French, and Carlos could apparently speak it. Moments later we were lead to a table and Carlos pulled the chair out for me. I sat down and smiled as he sat across from me. He ordered our drinks in French to the waiter and soon we were alone at the table.

"So tell me a little about yourself." He stared at me with interest as I took a deep breath.

"Well, basically I moved here from Colorado. I lived there all my life until recently. My parents liked the snow and I didn't blame them. I loved it from birth. My mother used to call me her snow angel because ever since I was a baby, I'd never take my eyes off the snow. It was breathtaking." I smiled at the memory of my mother saying this to me.

"Oh. Well where was your mother? She didn't appear to be home." My anxiety was suddenly making an appearance as a frown grew of my face.

"She uh.... S-she..." Tears were threatening to spill and I had to look away from Carlos. But I wish I hadn't. To my left, sitting with a beautiful blonde, was Angel.

He was laughing as he talked to her, looking absolutely happy. A pang of jealously hit me. After everything he told me, he had the guts to go out with another girl? In the same place? But then I realized I was here with another guy. Real hypocritical. I looked back to Carlos and suddenly I got fidgety.

"I need to use the restroom. Excuse me." I gave a tiny smile before pushing away from the table and finding the bathroom.

I went in and after making sure no one was in there, I broke down. Even though I tried to push my mother back in my mind, she always seemed to surface. I missed her the more I thought about her. And that was an awful lot lately. The door of the bathroom swung open and I quickly wiped away my tears. The girl Angel was here with looked at me with concern.

"Are you ok?" Her English accent made me even more jealous. Her eyes were bright blue and her hair cascaded down her back in blonde waves.

I simply nodded and turned away. She came up beside me and unzipped her purse. She pulled out some make-up wipes.

"Here. Let me help you. Your make-up is smeared." I hesitantly turned and she started cleaning the makeup from around my eyes.

"You're very beautiful. Angel was right." She grinned and I looked shocked.

He told her about me? Oh how charming. Not.

"Yeah. Sure." I looked at myself once in the mirror before pushing past her and leaving the bathroom.

I walked back to my seat and sat down. Carlos looked questioning to me.

"Everything alright?" He asked.

I looked over and made eye contact with Angel. He smiled and I glared at him before looking back at Carlos.

"Just peachy."
