"i thought you promised that we were gonna go out!"
"hell. no. i have changed my mind.. i'm tired and.. i think your brothers wave of depression has depressed me, as well," you muttered jokingly, watching the taller male fiddle with his tie before he yanked it off in frustration. you chuckled to yourself. it surprised you that kaeya, along with some others you knew, were in charge of orientation since he was a part of the student council. he had to wear a stupid outfit for it, and everything, but it was a rare sight. kaeya never looked this fancy.
"then what are you going to do instead? boil macaroni and cry yourself to sleep on a friday night?" he asked, eyeing you down with a grimace whilst you shrugged at the thought of his idea. it didn't sound so bad, actually, "maybe switching rooms wasn't such a great idea.." he stated right after, watching a small smile appear on your face before you started to laugh at the fact that he thought diluc really had transferred his sadness onto you.
you shook your head.
"we don't even make eye contact with each other.. it's extremely.. unsettling.." you said, rubbing you chin.
after you had left him by himself the other day, you'd came back to him wrapped up in a blanket while his eyes were glued to the bright television. the entire room was dark, and you'd nearly tripped and split your knee open.
yup.. he was something alright.
"why's he all mopey, anyways? did something happen?" you then asked, causing kaeya's steps to slow down and eventually stop. you tilted your head in confusion as he turned around, suddenly looking a lot more serious.
"his father.. i mean.. our father.." he began, rubbing the back of his neck with a sigh, "he passed away three years ago. diluc hasnt really been the same since."
the words that had come out of your best friends mouth immediately tugged on the usual smile that was spread across your face. you realized how little you knew about everybody, and felt terrible that you hadn't known about this before.
"my condolences.. i'm sorry, i shouldn't have aske—" you began, tripping and fumbling over your words before kaeya grabbed your hand with a small, reassuring smile.
"ah, it's fine.. you should know, anyway. you're my best friend," he said, making you sigh out with a frown, "and if i was your best friend and you loved me, you would come with me to this new place tonight.." aaand he was back.
"is it just going to be you and me?" you asked, suspiciously taking your hand out of kaeya's while he chuckled.
"do you want it to be just us?" he replied, suggestively wiggling his eyebrows before he grunted at the stomp you'd placed on his foot.
"im serious, alberich!"
"no, it won't be just us, you demon!" he yelped, hopping one foot while you watched with a grin, "us and a few friends. just to celebrate the beginning of a new and hopefully good, school year."
"interesting.."
kaeya stared at you, expectantly.
"okay fine. i'll come. just text me the address in a bit,"
and your blueberry headed idiot had successfully done it. phase 2 of his plan.
"you better not be late.."
"no promises!"
as soon as you'd shut the door in his face, you whirled around and let out an exhausted groan. you really were tired, but kaeya seemed excited and you didn't want to let him down. the stuff you did for your friends..
